Powerscourt Golf Club is part of a 1,000 acre estate that dates back to the 13th century when it was a stronghold for Anglo-Normans coming to Ireland. The club is comprised of two championship golf courses, the East and West. The East Course is Powerscourt's original layout. The parkland layout is enhanced by the panoramic views of both the Atlantic and Sugarloaf Mountain. There are some holes with links characteristics that contrast nicely with the parkland holes that the course begins with. There are trees all throughout the golf course, many of which are over 200 years old. Multi-tiered greens range from mildly to severely sloped thanks to the dramatically undulating terrain. The course has hosted several key events, including the 1998 Irish PGA Championship.
