County Louth Golf Club, also known as Baltray, is situated upon sandy dunes wedged between the River Boyne to the south and the Irish Sea to the east. It is the ideal landscape for a links layout. The gently undulating terrain was so perfect in fact, that only 50 bunkers were included in the layout, nature did most of the design work. Bunkers may not be numerous but they are intelligently placed, perhaps more so than any other golf course in Ireland. County Louth features slick, undulating greens and dense rough areas. Accurate drives are integral to scoring well and top-notch short game skills don't hurt either. This low-set links course is straightforward with very few surprises, but the unpredictable wind is always a treacherous factor since no two holes run in the same direction.
