Awesome As Always

In Murvagh you are always guaranteed a warm welcome by Grainne and the team. Course in great condition as always and food after in the clubhouse was superb. Our society generally play every yr - its worth coming back every yr. As you drive down the lane and through the forest, the view of the clubhouse always brings a smile to your face!

First time

Went up to play murvagh on a very reasonable hot deal €30 as our parkland was closed yet again . Murvagh was is reasonable conditioning for time of year and weather we have had, greens were quite slow but overall course played nicely it is quite a long course and it take a few good hits to get to some of the par fives. Play was very slow as we were out behind a society 4.45 hours not great if you found the long stuff it just gobbled your ball up didn’t use clubhouse but pro shop was friendly enough and yes I probably would go back again maybe in the spring time.

No Fescue, Just 6 inches of long grass in the rough, this course make the U.S. Open look like Amateur Hour

This is the only course in Ireland I have played that doesn't have much fescue, just super long grass in the rough that makes it almost impossible to find your ball when you miss the fairway, which I did a lot. It really took away from the enjoyment of the course. They really need to figure out how to get real fescue where you actually have a chance to find your ball if you miss the fairway. The course was well laid out and it would have been much more enjoyable if they have real fescue. The course is n the dark ages as they don't permit you to wear soft spikes in the F&B areas. The people were very friendly and proud of their course and the tradition.

Wonderful links course where Darren Clarke is a member

Although lacking the dramatics of nearby Enniscrone, the links of Murvagh (or Donegal Golf Club. There was certainly some confusion there) is a lovely course that - despite it's length - can be played by golfers of all levels. The course is much less intimidating than some of the other links courses in the area, and with large greens, it's a fun track. The greens are quick and protected by many bunkers, but as you traverse the land, you realize you're playing a pure links course. As the sun set on my round, the whole atmosphere while finishing was magical. Some elevated tee blocks allow you to get a strong look at most of the property, including Donegal Bay. The 8th hole is probably the strongest par-5 in the area. Another unique feature: the forest! You'll see a lot of that at Donegal, and none anywhere else in the area. A fine feature.

A relaxing, fun, but still challenging stop

Murvagh, as it’s known locally is a pleasant, relatively flat, and much more forgiving course than Carne and Enniscrone. There is a barrier of dunes which block the view of the sea from most holes, though you can usually hear the waves just beyond. With the absence of dunes to weave around, the course is far less intimidating than others. It felt more like a pure links course rather than a wild ride through the dunes as it has all of the characteristics of a links with the undulating and fast fairways leading to firm greens protected by pot bunkers. You can score well, but need to be creative in your approach to the greens and you must keep the tee shots in the fairway. From the 6th tee on top of the dune, you have a great view over Donegal Bay – look at the oyster farm only a few hundred yards away and remember that as you try the oysters at Castle Bar in Donegal Town (the course is called Donegal, the Town is Donegal, the county is Donegal – leads to some confusion at times.) The club house is nice with the restaurant on the second floor able to see the entire course.

I love this golf course !

I played this golf course in June 2013 - on an absolutely beautiful day. I am a 12 handicapper and found this course challenging. The views were incredible and the staff was extremely friendly. I would recommend this course - the Links style was great - Leave the driver in the bag on some holes though !
