I have played Tidewater at least a dozen times before. I've always looked forward to playing there because of the layout and the conditioning. On Dec. 4th, 2008, I played it again for the first time in two years. I was astonished at the conditioning of the course. Where to begin? The first tee was bare dirt (or should I say mud), with absolutely no definition as to where the tee started or finished. The first green had rather large areas that had missed being cut. These areas were relatively close to where the pin was cut and were very obvious. As we progressed around the course, our disappointment turned to disdain as where it became obvious that despite the pricy green fee being charged, management’s interest in keeping the course in pristine condition was very low on their agenda. I, for one, am truly sadden to see a course that I have revered, in such terrible shape and more sadden to say that I will not consider returning to play there in the future.
