Course Review and Comments
I have been playing golf for over 50 years. My handicap has ranged between 5 and 15 and now back to 10. I have had the privilege of playing courses all over the US and England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. I have played Augusta National, Muirfield, Royal Dornoch, Carnooustie, Pinehurst No. 2, The Olympic Club, Riviera, etc, etc . A significant number of the best courses in the world.
Yesterday I had the privilege of playing The Tillery Tradition with an old and very dear friend of more than 40 years. I was not expecting much except good weather and camaraderie
with an old friend.
What I found was a true gem of a golf course. The condition of the course was amazing. The design is remarkable in that it is sufficiently challenging but rarely punitive. Translation: lots of tee shots from elevated tees to fairways which reward accuracy and distance (it feels like you are really, really long off the tee) but allow recovery from all but those locations from which one does not deserve to recover without penalty.
The greens are beautifully designed. If they were to shave them down to a 1
0 or 12 or so Stimp, you would have all you ever wanted by way of challenge. As they were yesterday, maybe 8 or 9, they were not too slow and not too fast. Just fun.
The only sign of life I saw on the course (besides the frequent spasms of golf-like movements from my pal) were lots of deer. And birds.
In short, I would love to play this course every day forever.
Don't miss it!
