Course Review and Comments
Played this course after playing Portmarnock Old Course in Ireland and Royal Dornach in Scotland the same week. It was the grand finale for me after a week of amazing golf experiences.
Advanced arrangements on line and payment were easy. They even confirmed my request for a caddy which is well worth every penny.
This links course is absolutely magical with many holes running longways on the coast. Course was in outstanding shape. Rain the day before helped. Every hole is memorable, some with ancient stone walls that run not just perpendicular to fairway but one ran diagonally....Really fun and charming.
Having a caddy made all the difference for enjoying and playing this course well despite it being my first time. I lucked out having Sophia as my caddy, one of just a few women caddies there. She has a very, very low handicap and knows the course like the back of her hand. Sophia was exceptional at reading the greens and helping me with course management that would have taken many rounds to figure out.
I highly recommend being in top physical shape since these courses over here are long and hilly. I prepared by working out at the gym and walking lots of rounds at home. Otherwise it would have been too much to walk 5 1/2 rounds in 8 days as I did.
My next time over I will definitely book both St Andrews and North Berwick West Links.
