Course Review and Comments
The Ledges Golf Course on the northeast edge of St. George is one of the newest facilities in the area. My design rating of "3" may be a little misleading. The front and back nines of this golf course might as well be on two different planets. The front nine, although an interesting routing, is a game played on a very well kept but somewhat "minimalist" landscape. That doesn't mean it isn't a good test of golf because it is, but in an area of such amazing geological extremes it comes off a little bland. That said it is time to head for the back nine and a whole different world. Falling away from the lake fronting the clubhouse, down the hill on #10, The "LEDGES" starts to reveal her "True Self". From here on the golf holes soar up and down the edges of the beautiful red, white, pink, orange and black formations on the top side of Snow Canyon State Park. Every hole has a magnificent view of Slickrock, fractured black lava and the contrast between it and the verdant green of the tees, fairways and greens is stunning. Although it is not my favourite golf course in the area, it has what I think is a series of holes on the inward nine that have some of the most breathtaking views of any course in the area. The 14th. hole I believe may become one of the most photographed golf holes in America. If you can get a decent price on the Ledges it is well worth playing. Just think of the front nine as a "warm-up" for the back side.
