Course Review and Comments
I played The Florida Club while I was on vacation in Florida with my family. I am a pretty serious golfer, and I am an advocate of condition over design. So, first, the design of the course was great. It is not a very long course, from any tee. Not too many daunting shots over water, and ample area to lay up if you are a short hitter. I am a bit longer of a hitter, and the course played very short for me (from the back tee). What lacked in length was made up in hole layout and shot choice. There are many opportunities to choose the easy versus the hard route. The bunkering around the greens is very novice, so if you are not accurate on the approach, it is a fairly easy up-and-down. The water is not in play as much as others have said, if you play the hole correctly.
As for the conditions; the bermuda greens were soft and bumpy (unnecessarily for this time of year), and seemed to be mismanaged in the recent weeks. Some wilting was compensated for by over-watering, and thus, an uneven and leggy surface resulted. The fairways were wet as well (over-watered) but looked like they could be great given some tweaks. The tee boxes were cut too long and showed signs of high volume of play.
Overall, this course is an average to above average public course for the east-central Florida coast. We paid $37 each, and for that cost, it is a perfectly adequate test for a fun day of golf. However, at full rate, which can be $50 and above, it is worth it to spend less, play a slightly less manicured course, and save up for a few good rounds somewhere else.
I recommend this golf course, if the price is right!
