Course Review and Comments

I played The Bridge for the first time on April 19. Despite the winds blowing all day at 20+ MPH, I truly enjoyed this course and can't wait to go back.

In the past 2 weeks I've played Tour 18, The Plantation and Westridge. The Bridges was in far better shape than all 3, and I think it's a much better "combination" of golf holes than Tour 18. From McKinney, it only took me 35 mins to get there. I'm 45 mins from Tour 18.

They had a coupon on their website that gave us buy-one get-one free on a weekend. So for $32.50 each, it was stealing for a course of this quality. The price also included range balls and they have a very nice practice facility. I would suggest getting there an hour early and taking advantage of the facilities.

Other than feeling like every hole was into the wind, my only marjor complaint was the lack of any hole layouts on the scorecard or even the hole markers. There are several holes that you need to know layup or carry distances. There are also a few holes with landing areas. I know this is eventually going to be a private course, but it was very difficult playing this course "blind." I didn't ask, but I didn't see any yardage books in the clubhouse. They have good hole layouts online, so print all 18 off at home.

A minor complaint. The sand traps here are deep and huge, and I found several of them. Unlike the other courses I mentioned, these traps were actually raked and you could play from them. But the problem is they only had 2 rakes per trap. Several times it was a long walk all the way around the trap just to retrieve the rake.

We had no problem booking a Sunday am tee-time on Wednesday night. The course play was steady, and it certainly didn't feel crowded. Even at $65 (no coupon), this is well worth it. I moved to TX from VA 5 years ago, and courses like this bring $125 to $150 and getting a tee-time sometimes takes and act of God.

Bring you A game if you want to score. Also, I don't know the beer policy, but they didn't sell any beer. This may have been a Sunday thing, I don't know. We brought a cooler but ran out of beers and wanted to buy more at the turn. No luck.

Give this place a chance -- I hope they can make it in this economy. They are having a $25/man Scramble on Saturday May 2. I was excited to put together a team, but I realized I'm committed to a Derby party so I'll miss this one.
