Course Review and Comments

This is a one-time Monterey visit type course. It is being refurbished (very well done) and has nice scenery. The basic layout is nice and the course is well kept. The service is absolutely outstanding. Excellent does not do it justice. However, the greens are atrocious. It's not the speed or the cut, rather, the absurd humps and multi-level layouts that are beyond silly. Keep your eyes open and you might find a windmill, skee-ball jump or a clown opening his mouth. Cups are often placed within 2 feet of a major drop-off. If you run a 7 foot put 24" behind the hole you risk ending up off the green, 45 feet away. The renovators have not figured out the difference between a real golf course and miniature golf layout. What could otherwise be a nice golf experience becomes an unfortunate, tedious event. 5 putts are not uncommon by single digit handicappers. Remember the US Open at the Olympic Club where golfers hit putts uphill past the cup only to have the ball come back by the cup and then run past where the putt started? Well.... welcome to the absurdity of Bayonet. Never again. Play Spyglass, DeLaviega or Pasatiempo. For just plain fun, play Aptos Seascape (easy but fun).
