Course Review and Comments
July 5th, 2008 was the first time I played this highley regarded golf course in Temecula Wine Country. I have heard great things about Temeku including; great value, beautiful scenery, mint condition, great staff. Today EVERYTHING was completely the opposite.
COURSE CONDITIONS:
First, the course was in terrible condition. There was almost zero green grass anywhere on the course. Burnt, brown grass dominated the entire 18-hole course. The only exception were in areas where drainage problems created minor flooding issues (and thus greener grass). The teeboxes AND greens looked like they haven't been seeded or rolled in about 6 weeks. Of the 18 greens, only 5 were in decent shape. The rest were were either over, or under, watered. Also, the Greens were filled with crabgrass, old divots, and poorly refilled holes! Many had golf cart tire tracks running through them. Every green sloped from front-to-back and completely lacked originality.
$$ VALUE $$:
The value just wasn't there today. For it being summer/off-peak conditions I'd expect to pay lower than peak greens fees. With a "Click-for-Tee-Times" discount I payed $54 to tee off @ 10am. Regular price is $69 for weekends.
COURSE MANAGEMENT:
Some of the employees were completely incompetent. First, Temeku has a 'no-denim & collared-shirt only' dress-code policy. However, numerous golfers wore ripped jeans, sneakers/basketball shoes, and/or T-shirts.
Second, an older male starter scolded a young female starter very loudly as I tried to tee off from the 10th tee. I asked his to quiet down but all I got was a smug look before he resumed making this young lady feel stupid.
And, Temeku's staff allowed numerous college aged kids to play for free with carts. This was confirmed by the obnoxious and cocky players who admitted as much. The most troubling aspect of our round was the actions of a volatile twosome that were let on the course for free (and giving free reign to raise hell) by an employee named Chase, or Jason? After playing the first 12 holes without seeing these hoodlums anywhere, they popped up behind us on the 13th fairway. We witnessed them trash the course by intentinally taking divots out of greens & teeboxes with wedges. They threw golfballs at a home with a for-sale sign on it. FInally they threatened to "beat me up," with a 5-iron, after I asked them politely not to cut over to the 15th tee as I was finishing on the 14th green. They must of thought this was WWE and not GOLF!
My advice to ALL GOLFERS is to stay far away from Temeku Hills Golf in Temecual, CA. There are at least a dozen better public golf courses within 30 miles. Or, if your looking for a uniquely annoying, and possibly dangerous golfing experience then Temeku Hills is just the right place for you!!
