Here's my experience at Stoneybrook. We tied off as a 3-some on time. After a few holes of slow golf, we encountered a ranger and complained about the pace of play. He told us that we were on schedule and said that it was because we were a 3-some that it appeared slow. No the course is busy. No we’re trying to speed up play. Just you’re wrong, it’s not slow. We tried to point out the time from the 1st tee box, but he wasn’t listening. On the 7th tee box, we were approached by someone who did not identify himself and started talking about how rangers don’t get paid enough to have to put up with our complaints. What! I thought one of the rangers’ jobs was to maintain the pace of play. I asked him to please leave and that I had not paid good money to be lectured to by a high school student. Then he said that we had used offensive language with the ranger (and repeated the thing about them not being paid enough). This was untrue and I told him so in no uncertain terms. At the 10th tee box, we were approached again. This time, by the grand poobah. At least that’s what he thought of himself. I let him know that I was very unhappy about the experience at the 7th tee box and I wanted to know who was lying. It was either the ranger or Junior. About this time, the ranger showed up and, when confronted, agreed that we had not used any foul language (he could have just lied, but did not. I credit him for that). Apparently, Junior was the liar. We played the back nine without further abuse. The club pro met us at the end of the round and offered us our money back. I told him that we had played our round and gotten our money’s worth. So, I guess in summary. It’s decent course, just don’t complain to the rangers about the pace of play unless you want to be assaulted the rest of the round. By the way, we tee’d off at 10:50 and finished at 4:10 for a total round time of 5 hours and 20 minutes. Does that sound like a reasonable pace of play?
