Course Review and Comments

A beautiful lush green course in magnificent conditions and the weather just perfect, not a hint of breeze, so no excuses. The private course winds its way through a valley covered in vineyards with the backdrop being the Silvermine Mountains. The greens were an 8 on the stimp metre and they rolled beautifully. Golf digest rates it 34/500 in South Africa. Notable members include Jaques Kallas (cricketer) and Francis Botha (rugby player).
They have 5 tee off areas the largest course from the back tees being 6320m to the ladies being5080m.
If you have not played there before you have to have at least 1 caddy per fourball, it is an easy course to navigate around, the holes flow in logical sequence. This is my 1st game in South Africa and didn't know what to give the caddy. Pro shop advised of procedure- you pay the pro shop 20R for the use of a caddy, after 9holes you give the caddy 20R, at the end of 18 you give him 150R + extra for exceptional service but the extra is totally up to you. Not sure how much game cost as it was included in our itinerary. They did give a course book and on the 1st tee there are pencils, score cards and packs of tees for players to use.
After 9 holes there is a compulsory 10-15min break. They have a good snack bar which serves toasted sandwiches, drinks etc.
There is no need for a cart as it is all flat and a very easy, picturesque walk. There are 2 toilet blocks out on the course, one on each 9 and a 2 water fountains on each nine but only one of them works. Didn't see any cart service, but did see a marshal.
They have 2 signature hole both being par 3's. The first being the par 3 7th an island green surrounded by water as well as bunkers. You'll love it. The 2nd is the par 3 14th another green surrounded by bunkers surrounding a 63m green. From any tee it could be a difference of 2-3 clubs depending where the pin is.
I had 75, thought it was fairly easy especially if on the fairways. The fairways are wide and water comes into play on about 8 holes. You will only get into trouble if you go really right or left.
After golf you can sit on the verandah with a drink watching players come down the 18th.
They have a good bistro/restaurant but didn't try it.
Overall a very pleasant day.
