Course Review and Comments
Pure history. Not what the average American would think given the plush/expensive courses in the US. It is more a public type links course, hard fairways and nothing exciting about the scenery - but the history will make you cry to play this one. During April early May the gorse is in bloom which caught me by surprise. The Opens always show the green gorse bushes (avoid them - no retrieving balls from these nasty thorn monsters). Get a caddie - about $70 US. But well worth the guidance and stories are worth the money. Makes it all the more enjoyable and you will get a history tour during your round. Wind will be a factor even on your putts. Difficult to hit a putt hard down hill, but into the wind. This course should be on every golfers "bucket list".

I played the Old Course just once in near drought conditions, so the wear & tear of 40K rounds/year was evident. Nonetheless, it was a thrill. The course was playing very fast & firm. A caddie

There is NOTHING in the world like teeing off on the first hole of The Old Course. Every golfer should do it at least once. Take a caddie, as so many of the bunkers are blind off the tees and the aimi

The Old Course lives up to the expectations. I think the best thing about the course is that while you can just close your eyes and bomb your drive on a lot of holes, approach shots, chipping and putt
