Course Review and Comments
I'm the editor-in-chief of the leading Italian golf magazine, 'Il Mondo del Golf', and we're commonly rating San Domenico as one of the best courses in our country. As our friend of Golf Digest, every year we draw up a national ranking and San Domenico is always considered in the Top 20 (it was the ‘Best New Course’ in 2003). It's a super 'five stars' golf club, signed by European Golf Design, and it hosted the last five finals of the Challenge Tour. San Domenico is a real links course, just a couple of hundred meters far from Adriatic Sea coast in Apulia, exactly half way between Bari and Brindisi (both cities have airports linked by easyjet flights). Tricky but not impossible, the course becomes very though with strong winds, which often blow here near the sea.
Marvellous site, beautiful clubhouse and a new five star resort (Borgo Egnazia) located exactly in front of the entrance. Another jewel, Masseria Cimino (an old villa with about 20 rooms), is closed to hole 8’s tee. And the well known hotel San Domenico (five stars, Leading Hotels of the World) is just a couple of miles away. In Italy, San Domenico is nominated to win the prize 2010 for the ‘best maintenance’ of greens and fairways. For more info, www.golfpuglia.it.

It should be a four stars and a half. In fact the course really deserve the top judgement but with a small exception: some holes, definitely beautiful if considered one by one, could resemble each other a little at first sight. |

Top class all year long, even in summer: a manicured course.

Facilities are now at highest standards, with the resort Borgo Egnazia which hosts two big pools, a huge spa, fitness center and so on. Excellent locker and dressing rooms. The club's restaurant is a must, with its superlative Apulian cuisine (pastas, vegetables and cheese - mozzarella above all). An unforgettable souvenir.

The legend – or rather the sterotype – says that Italy is the country of the ‘four M’s’: mamma, mafia, maccheroni, and mandolino. We may accept our nation to be praised for its family values

A links course with Italian style. You can see the beautiful Mediterranean sea from every hole; it can be quite testing when the wind blows. Stunning olive-tree trunks, as old as 500 years and more, c
