Course Review and Comments

This course is a nice design that used to be a great place to play, but I'm sad to say that the new ownership has let the conditions of the course plummet while raising the greens fees. When I played this past Saturday, the greens were in absolutely horrible condition. There were huge patches of dirt in the middle of greens, and you couldn't putt from anywhere outside about four feet and not have to putt your ball through dirt. I've played some terrible courses in my day and really have never seen anything like it. If you're in the area, play another course -- any other course -- before you waste your money at Pittsburgh National. Cranberry Highlands is the best of the bunch, about 25 minutes away. But there are other nice courses in the area that are cheaper and/or in better shape: Pittsburgh North, Rittswood, Conley Resort, Suncrest and Lake Vue North all within a 15-20 minute drive of Pittsburgh National. I'm really sad to see this course in such bad shape, but I was embarrassed to host two guests at the course once we saw the greens. The folks in the proshop really should have told me when I made my tee time -- or at least before they took my money -- that the course was in such bad condition. I feel like I got ripped off, and I won't go back.
