Course Review and Comments
What you're getting here is a Robt Trent Jones Jr design with the local gentry conditioning. Yes, there's gravel in the traps. Yes, sometimes (not ALL the time) you can barely distinguish the rough from the fairway...but...the views, especially on the mountainous back nine, are terrific and with all the water on the course, it's become home to over 300 cayman (the locals call them crocodiles)...I've played here for the last 7 years and I'm a bit of a snob about courses here at home, but since you're on a vacation, relax, enjoy the views, the poa greens (bumpy) and the absolute joy that the staff has in making you feel comfortable. Rates for the week are available, as well as seasonal memberships.Make a point of stopping at the 19th hole upstairs from the clubhouse and meet Francisco-great guy. Centrally located in Ixtapa, and the kids around the caddy shack will go fetch a cab for you after the round...just give them a bit of a tip and a smile-goes a long way. Club rental is available, and it's interesting to watch the caddies shagging balls on the range-no jeep, just bushel baskets.
Make sure you see the view on the 15th hole as you come down the mountain...
