Course Review and Comments
Don't write Mirimichi off yet, but wait, wait, wait. Maybe it grows in next year, grounds crew will probably improve, and facilities may come together as planned. Unfortunately, course layout will still be quirky & suspect. Oh- and fill up with gas before you make the drive to Millington if your concealed-carry is out-of-date.

Course will be scenic if it survives, but now is not the time to play it. At Mirimichi now, eco-friendly is code for "bad lie". Miss the fairway by 6 inches, and you'll have to step on your ball to find it. Only the fairways are cut regularly at this stage, with some first-cut rough near 6 inches! 300 yard drives can split the fairway, and kill your score (thanks to strategically placed "native areas" and bunkers). Topography also promotes uphill, downhill, or sidehill lies on most shots from the fairway. This type layout is why Tiger avoids TPC New Orleans, and other Pete Dye's when he can (& would probably skip Sawgrass if he could). Two mickey-mouse pin placements on Thursday. On 6, I pushed a par putt past the right edge, rolled it 6 inches past, then watched the ball turn around & roll back down the slope to the cup... good for your scorecard- not so good from the cup-cutter. |

Most greens were healthy, no armyworms on the new flags yet. Putts rolling pretty true relative to their ages. There really is no first cut of rough right now- everything off fairway is unkept (or "native" if you prefer). You really can find 4-6" rough just inches off fairways. |

Staff generally friendly and attentive, with much on-course grounds keeping in-progress. Some grounds staff less than professional- no uniforms, hats sideways, pants falling down, cigarettes hanging from mouth when they greet you. |

Everything in temporary trailers right now. Clubhouse plan sounds great... much $ down the road. Solar panels here and there, not yet functional. Deck and outdoor bar above 18th green was a highlight. |

I use to play this course 2-3 times a week when it was Big Creek and I must say I am severely disappointed at this point in time. The greens are playable but still need some time to mature. If you don
