A Barrington Hills woman was arraigned Tuesday on three theft charges after she allegedly stole $173,000 from Makray Memorial Country Club while employed there.
Roberta "Bobbie" L. Mangini, 39, who lives on Ashbury Lane in Barrington Hills, was formerly the director of catering sales at the club and is accused of stealing money from various events held there dating back to 2007, a Barrington Police Department press release stated.
Mangini was arraigned at the Cook County Criminal Court building in Chicago on charges of continuing financial crimes enterprise, theft by deception and felony theft. The charges were a result of a seven-month investigation by the Barrington Police Department and the Cook County State's Attorney's Financial Crimes Unit, according to the release.
Police said the investigation began after a cash deposit for a banquet held at the facility was missing. The investigation allegedly revealed that Mangini would offer large discounts to those looking to hold an event at the country club if they paid her upfront with cash. She would then mark the account as paid and deposit the cash into her personal bank account, according to police.
Makray fired Mangini in February, the release stated.
She was unable to post the 10 percent of $10,000 bond that was set Tuesday and was given an Oct. 19 court date.
