The following comments apply to all of the three courses available at Isla de Navidad.
Laurie and I were members for 6 months (from November 1 - April 30, 2009-2010). While the membership is more than we pay at our home in Canada, the membership fees at the Isla de Navidad course are right for the quality of the course.
We were also members for 3-4 years prior to 2008. |

I can't say I like all the holes --- some of them give me fits. But, that's not the fault of the course designer. Number 1 on the Ocean Course is a tough starting hole but it is, like all other holes on this 27 hole layout, a fair test of golf. Number 20 is a full carry over the water (175-200 yards)and not for the faint of heart. Then, there's Hole 27 ... most golfers are happy to finish with a par, regardless of their handicap. |

Some of the tee boxes were in need of work at the beginning of year but were improved upon as the year went on. The fairways are almost always very good and we could always count on the greens to take approach shots and stick. Large greens make it very interesting when it comes to putting!!
As for the rough, ... like most courses, you pay a price for going there. We are not used to rough like this in Canada ... the ball just settles down and sometimes you can't find it right away even though you might be just a foot or two away from it. |

The club pro, Rafael Ramiriz is one of the nicest gentlemen you will ever meet --- one of best golf instructors I have ever had and a very positive man.
Gabby, the caddy master, does a fine job as do his support staff. The cart service people are excellent and always seem to be nearby when you want a refreshment or something to snack on.
As I understand it, carts are included in the price of the round for greens fee players.
For our money, it is great having a choice of caddies (you have to take one and it costs an additional $300-400 pesos). We have our favourites but all of them are pretty good.
Really like the 19th hole ... drinks were usually 2 for 1 and always preceded by salsa and chips compliments of the house. Staff is excellent.

The pro shop is pretty spacious and offers everything you need ... the staff at the counter (Hilda and friends) do a good job.
Hard to beat the club house for amenities but I have to admit to not having used any part of it except for washrooms. Can smell a bit musty at times.
Used the practice range a lot of times ... never could get a feel for correct distances and that may be more my fault than anything.
Balls not always there so if you plan on using the range you need to be sure to tell the staff that as you get assigned your carts.
Usually, you will find a staff person there to take care of you ... they will normally clean your clubs and generally make sure you are looked after ... a small tip ($20 pesos or so) is appreciated. |
