Course Review and Comments
This golf club is in a rural setting created simply as a place of recreation for planters in the vicinity and government officers from around the district. The company, MP EVENS were the owners then. It was the training ground for many a later day acclaimed golfers who had perfected their skills playing in such tight fairways and postage stamp greens, all with cow grass.Greens were well manicured and putting used to be a pleasure.
The club was the focal point of meeting other families of the planting fraternity and the swimming pool was a very well utilised facility. Many were the games played on the standard sized snooker table with eager participants always at hand to take over when the loser leaves.
The bar was well patronised and AH Kee the bartender/cook/entertainer, was always ready to top up with a toothy grin. His chicken sandwiches were awesome and mah mee delightful. Being a bachelor then, most of my meals came from people like Ah Kee and others like him from the neighbouring clubs in Kulim and Harvard.
I had the great satisfaction in winning many a monthly medals, The Downs Cup, eclectic events etc.
Visited the club a few months ago and was quite disappointed that it had degraded to it's present state. A little imagination and effort will surely bring back at least some of the olden day excitement and make this club once more a place to visit and enjoy for the whole family.
