Course Review and Comments

This is a very demanding course especially from the blue tees or the tips. Having lived in South Florida for 10 years, this was my all-time favorite. The design is typical Florida in that it's flat. But you must be very straight (and long) on your tee shots as you must drive through many narrow cypress chutes to avoid the water or other hazards. The conditions weren't always perfect until about 6 years ago when they changed greenskeepers then the course has been very well maintained ever since. If you're unlucky enough to get caught in one of those SFla rain storms don't worry. The course dries out very quickly and play is often continued in about an hour after the heaviest mother nature throws at it. OK now the cons of this course. It was build back in the 60's and the surrounding area of condos reflect the times and haven't been updated much so if you're looking for scenic views forget it. The clubhouse is aging but very functional, as is the pro shop; you can get essentials there but that's about it. Now, the food and staff in the restaurant/lounge are outstanding. It is a Pittsburgh crowd (as are the owners) so if you're not a Steeler fan you might not want to disclose it. Food is excellent, well prepared, and the bartenders/waitresses are excellent. Don't miss the Friday night skins game, it used to get pretty intense. But the real only drawback to the course is the lack of a driving range or practice facility. From my understanding when the 9's were reversed years ago and #1 was made into a par 5, the range went bye bye so warm up prior to getting there. All in all it's a great course, challenging and fun. I played with 2 Swedish golf pros and neither one of them broke 80 from the tips (and I learned some sweedish curse words too)
