Course Review and Comments
I played Arroyo as part of the Summerlin Golf tour. 1st, I hate it when the driving range is so far away that you have to catch a cab. The course is in good, not great condition. The bad areas seem to be getting worked on, but I couldn't give it 5 stars. The greens are in decent shape, and are very fast. Last week TPC Summerlin said they were at a 10.5 stimp, so I'd say that puts Arroyo at 11-11.5 stimp. Again, they are really fast but a few too many ball marks for my taste (typical disrespectful public golfers). I recommend buying a yardage book before you play. There are a lot of bunkers and (not surprisingly) arroyos. The driver wasn't taken out of my hand, but I did need to know trouble distances on a majority of the holes. The yardage book was very helpful. The Palmer design is enjoyable, and although relatively short at < 6800 yards, the few layups off the tee stretch it out to all you can eat. There are no blind shots that I can recall, and very little elevation changes on the individual holes. This course is superior to Palm Valley and Highlands, just below Sienna, and inferior to TPC Las Vegas, and Bear's Best.
