Course Review and Comments
I used to play here a great deal back when it was simply called the South Course. The Mackenzie tag is little if any of Mackenzie's original design left. I hadn't played here in years, but decided to return to see what the big facelift of the early 2000s had done for the place. In a word or two...not much. The holes were as non-descript to me as ever. In fact, one hole I particularly enjoyed, the old hard dogleg right 3rd was completely removed in favor of a non-descript par 3, followed by an equally uninspiring par 4 over the old #3 ground. I suppose I was expecting them to have made some grandiose changes, but they didn't really do much. When I stumbled upon the miniature model of Stonehenge (I'm not kidding here) around the tenth hole, I figured a windmill, castle, and clown's mouth weren't far behind. After all the hype here in town about the upgrade they had done. I was disappointed. Except for a few exceptionally long par 5s there was nothing inspiring, no oooooh hole on whole thing. Dull. Easy, wide-open, pretty well-kept, but DULL.
