A Gem in Southern England
I played the course during twilight ours and it was awesome. I met a member who played his round with me and you couldn’t ask for a better playing partner with knowledge of the course. The first hole is tricky with the lurch just before the green (also be careful crossing the street when going to hole #2) lol. The rest of the course is tricky and if ya don’t know it will hurt you. I had a few good drives on some of the holes, but the trees are always present. It’s a great course and I was grateful for meeting the member of the course.
Tight,tree lined ,tricky greens
I played with my 2 sons ,good single figure players,on a friday afternoon, beautiful day and had the course to ourselves.in Good condition some nice holes, would recommend it,
Greens very slow
Course was in excellent condition however the greens were very slow
Decent course but pricey for what it is.
As the title suggests it's a decent enough course but a little bland. For the price charged there are far better courses to play for either the same price or cheaper. Price suggests the Club would prefer few visitors and that's fair enough but as I say far better courses out there with better deals.
First Visit
very nice challenging course in difficult windy conditions, course a little damp in places, only disappointment was due to overnight rain no trolleys, which wasn't great as only had a trolley bag, worthing ringing before booking just to check if rained night before.
will definitely be coming back
Too Pricey
I live local and have always wanted to play here. But there were too many holes that were not being played off there proper tees. Alternative tees were not even off a Matt. Just off a general area with tee markings. Very disappointed. Greens were good but overall too pricey for for the condition of the course
Good Winter experience
Very friendly club with good amenities. The food was well priced and of good quality. The course is pretty flat and easy to get around. The conditions the greens was good for mid January and had obviously benefitted from the relatively dry weather.. Looking forward to playing again in the spring/summer when it will be a different challenge
Interesting course
Tree lined and well laid out. A lot of work has gone into drainage so it’s standing up well to the winter. Greens were good. The pro shop is small and practice facilities basic..
I would recommend this course.
Great layout
Made to feel very welcome. We had a wonderful day out thanks to all the staff. Can’t wait to play it again. Thanks to you all. Colin and Dennis
Good course
Interesting course in excellent condition overall. Position off tee just as important as length. Holes quite different with variation on straight and dog leg.
Stupid white sock rule
Wonderful layout
Challenging course, fairly tree lined, with so many interesting holes, but very playable still for the high handicapper. True, medium to fast greens meant it was my fault for 3-putting twice! Beautiful setting despite clubhouse building work due to be completed by August, with very reasonably priced good food. Friendly members, and round only slowish due to following a 4 ball team match - 4 hours 20 minutes. Thank you Copthorne & hope to return to better my average score of 10 over. At £20 excellent value, but £30 would price me out, as I'd select other courses between £15 and £25 on my restricted budget.
Copthorne
Course.comditions very good. Winter rules now in place. Played here before and every time is consistently good. Staff very friendly. All greens tee boxes and fairways in good condition. Only a few areas GUR. Will play again soon.
Copthorne
Staff very friendly. Course conditions very good. Standards of tee boxes fairways and greens all very good. Greens a little slow for my personal taste but do roll true. Greens receptive to well struck shots. Could really do with a few more yardage markers or some yardage maps on the tee as severals holes are dog legs and clubbing is difficult to get to the dog leg. Nice course and would recommend.
Poor communication
Nothing wrong at all with the course, layout very good, some great holes but why oh why not tell you that essential maintenance was being carried out on the greens which were almost unplayable. Tined and sanded, putting was a joke. It would have been nice if the pro shop had told us before we started, at least we would have had a choice as whether to play or not.
Not bad but better value out there.
Unfortunately a rather nice course ruined by a rather snooty attitude at Copthorne. Very fussy on attire and etiquette which is fine but it doesn't seem to apply to some of the members themselves! Be prepared for a ticking off if a shoe lace is out of place, a shirt not fully tucked in or the wrong colour clothing being worn, it rather seems that green fees are not really welcome.
The course itself is in good condition and quite a challenge due to tree lined fairways, bunker protected greens and dog legs galore and a dropped shot can be fatal if you are looking for a good score. However if you stay on the fairways you can score well but one bad hole and the wheels can come off.
All in all it's ok but for the money there are far nicer courses and atmospheres elsewhere.
Course in superb condition. Greens a tad slow but look much quicker. Not a complaint just an observation. Layout is a bit strange with Clubhouse 1st and 18th on one side of the road and 16 holes on other side of road. Could do with a few more yardage markers as i struggled to find these on some holes. All said very varied course with something for everyone enjoyed my round and would definitely recommend and will pay this another visit soon i hope. Staff very friendly and accomodating.
Very Pretty Course
We got a great deal through 'Tee Off Times', only £20 plus the £1 booking fee (Oct-2016). Course was in superb condition, greens excellent but you do need to to be fairly straight as it's heavily tree lined. Only bad point is that you have to cross the main A264 twice, there is a proper Pelican Crossing but it's a hefty walk from the 1st green and then back to the 18th tee. The holes near the road are a bit noisy but once you are away from that the course is superb. We were playing a two ball, (both 8-hcps) and we kept great pace , the greens were superb, very receptive to good shots and nice pace to putt on. Best hole pick for me was the par-5 8th, slight dogleg left through a dip with a water hazard, real risk reward hole, at 500+ yards you'd think it's not reachable but it was playing down breeze and I hit driver 3-iron to pin high right and I'm not a long hitter, great hole. Really enjoyed this course and highly recommended. We didn't go in the clubhouse afterwards as we had to get back, but it did look very nice.
