it's wet today ^_^ Photo submitted by u8620379 on 11/17/2016
Must of been a beauty in its day
Very run down now as due to close soon but still good value for 18 holes. Would of been a belter when upkeep was on going. Soon to be completely re done so will be closed for a good few years. Still value to be had at £16 per person but make sure you bring plenty of balls as the rough is really rough and next to impossible finding balls that have even slightly diverted from the fairway. Greens are well past their best. Still had a good time and enjoyed.
Do not play
Horrendous condition, so overgrown I lost a ball in the middle of the fairway
Terrible condition
Overgrown in the extreme. Lost multiple balls that were hit straight amongst the long grass and dandelions. Big shame as the overall lay out could be interesting but I woul not recommend at all in it's current state.....
The worst kept course I have ever played
On booking the tee time the images shown on here looked good value for money
On arrival we unpacked our clubs and ventured to check in we were greated by the club pro who as friendly .On the outside of the shop there was a postee explaing that the bunkers were not in play. And the pro had told us that a few fairways had not been cut due to the weather we have had which I could understand.on arriving to th first tee the tee box was awfull uncut and uneven .you could not see a difference between the rough and the fairways. This carried on for the full 18 we were losing multiple balls in the fairways which was not great it was honestly like playing in a farmers field. The greens were also long with really no fringe or first cut. It's sad that I write this as you could see 100% that the course was once probably a stunning couse due to the shape and length of the holes, bunker placement and the green complexes. It's really disappointing seeing a course like this left to deteriorate in such a degree
Unmowed heavy ground conditions
Masters weekend but still too early in the season here, fairways unmowed , water logged fairways. Course was unplayable
Nice course, terrible course condition
The course layout was challenging some nice holes to play unfortunately, the course conditions made this experience very poor, the excuse of wet grass for overgrown fairways was a joke as we had played a course the day before and the day after and the fairways are in perfect condition.
Nice layout poor condition
Course was good test and good layout but greens and bunkers were in terrible condition. Really let it down
Not going to survive
Played post rain. But although some holes were ok, the general condition was very poor. Distance markers missing on most holes. Tee boxes were in a state. I lost three balls on Fairways! Completely unkempt. No ground staff visible. No pro shop. One member of staff. Times are tough but this wasn’t a golf course.
Merrist Wood used to be a really well kept course, however since I last played it seems to have deteriorated. The greens were a bit scruffy, fairways
Merrist Wood used to be a really well kept course, however since I last played it seems to have deteriorated. The greens were a bit scruffy, fairways We’re too long more like first cut rough and the tee boxes were not well cut..
Such a shame as this used to be a great track.
On the plus side it was very reasonably priced and easy to get booked.
Tired, unkept and in need of some TLC
To be honest I wasn’t expecting a perfectly kept course at £17 for a round, that said while I appreciate investment is minimal current, mainly due to major changes coming next year and the course closing for a period of time, I was left disappointed during my round. Bunkers without sand, fairways playing as long as semi rough in places, pitch marks galore on greens, worm holes on boggy fairways and some tee boxes with more divots than actual remaining grass. All in all can’t complain too much as the round was very affordable, that said I wish I had put the green fee towards playing somewhere that would have been more enjoyable. At this rate the course will be forced to close before April as people will be driven away by the terrible playing conditions. On a positive note the pace of play was great, mainly due to being pretty much the only one playing…. I am looking forward to revisiting this course once the major adaptations are complete however, for now at least, I will chose to avoid playing here unless drastic improvements are made to the playing conditions.
Potential
This has all the potential to be a really good course. But certainly not at the moment. It doesn’t drain well, which can’t be helped, but the maintenance certainly can be helped. The course is very much weather affected, so probably only at its best for a couple of months of the year! The fairways are overgrown, the course is covered in goose poop (can’t be helped…or can it?!) which basically meant a couple of the greens were unplayable as it was like a slalom course to avoid it. We thought we were getting a “hot deal” but it turns out we were basically robbed! Shame. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the clubhouse seemed up to standard.
Poorly looked after
Tee box aren’t great
Fairways looking like rough
Very very boggy
Poorly looked after greens
Cheap but poor condition
Fairways not cut short, no sand in bunkers and generally not well maintained. For £25 on a Saturday morning however, could be worse. The layout is pleasant and testing
