Misty morning round

With no chance to play on my local course and looking for somewhere close to home to play Clandon probably be a great choice. The fairway and rough was in good nick and pace of play was reasonable with good banter amongst fellow golfers.

My only gripe was the consistency and maintenance of the bunkers and greens, appreciate they get a lot of traffic but it kind of spoils the round a little when the roll is not true that said it didn’t spoil was rather an enjoyable and look forward to playing again in the summer

bunkers very poor

Fairly easy course to play with a couple of memorable holes and a couple of nice par 5's. The bunkers were not raked and some fairways unmowed. The course is overpriced and the clubhouse is a static office hut.

Good value course

Never played here before but was impressed given the course is only seven years old. Undulating without being too hilly, it was well kept and offered enough challenges throughout. It is long with a good mix of holes. The views from up on Merrow Down over the county are stunning even the distant eyesore of Woking is there for all to see!

The only negative was the clubhouse which is a portacabin and tent but the staff were friendly and unless you are the sort who demands a lengthy shower and slap-up meal you won't be disappointed.

Good casual course with challenging but fair holes

Clandon is a good casual course with a heathland layout. There are very few places to truly lose your ball (great for a casual player like me), and it has some truly outstanding views over the surrounding countryside.

A series of stand out holes along the back 9 include a run of holes set around an old chalk quarry that require either playing safe and short or risk long and lofty.

Well worth scoping out the bargain times to try this course out if you are a beginner, or to bring along visitors if you are more "on your game" to highlight that Clandon can stand up against other much pricier courses in the area.

You won't find a club house, but just around the corner is a quaint little pub so all is not lost!

A Great Surpise

This was the first time I had played Clandon GC, it is somewhat beginner friendly (with being very open) and yet also very challenging, I though this course was a parkland course but it acutallly plays like a links course. most of the holes a very open, so if you tend to have a booming hook and big slice, there is a very good chance you will still be in play. Some of the views are spectacular over seeing Guildford, the price was very fair as I only paid £15 for 18 holes and the green we a bit longer than most courses I have played but that didn't stop them from breaking and being able to read them, the only down side to this club is there are no warm up/practice areas, not range, cage, practice putting green or chipping green.
Other than that this course is well worth a play and will be playing there a lot this summer.

started well, then finished abruptly

Weather was fairly moderate: 20/25mph wind, very early start to be able to finish the 18th promptly.
Started very well, very friendly staff - while there is no club house, nor pro shop just a caravan :)
I was able to do the first 9th hole at good pace and enjoyed good course condition (it has rain the past 3 days), but then ... started the back 9 behind few groups that have started at 10 ... I wasn't able to move forward at acceptable pace (2 holes in 40 mins). Very frustrating I got to start at 13th hole. Really annoying.

Links feel but badly kept

This is a course with a great layout that has some challenging holes. A links like feel to it, that is just not kept in good nick. The majority of the course is ok with the fairways needing a cut, however the problem is with the greens. They are incredible long and actually play like a fringe at best. They are very bumpy and the ball bobbles a huge amount. They are the slowest greens I've played on and not in a good way. Even though the facilities are very basic, you wouldn't mind so much because the course is great other than the condition in particular the greens. This is the fourth time I've played it and I will give it one more shot because of the course but if there is not a vast improvement on the greens I will be force to strike if off my list of courses I play.
