Whiston Hall
We played this course on Saturday 19th may we used to play here Regular every Saturday morning about 15 years ago
The layout hasn’t changed the first 7 are a bit up and down and definitely make you think a bit the next 10 are pretty flat and you can see what you need to do
They seem to be taking some of the bunkers out of play as they are letting them grow over and just marked GUR
The rough is challenging and the greens are undulating not the smoothest I’ve played on but playable
All in all well worth the money and we will definitely return to play again in the near future
GUR bunkers
Difficult to find from main road, no signs! At the course entrance was a handwritten sign: 'All bunkers are GUR'. Soon found out why. All bunkers are overgrown with weeds, some 1/2 m high ! The first tee off was over trees and rubbish with no indicator to show the way, all that was obvious was that you needed to clear about 140m - some of my colleagues wouldn't manage that. There are about 4 holes where you cannot even see the green for your second shot. There are no tall marker posts behind greens to help you. The greens themselves have no definition, they are just flat areas at the end of fairways (1 or 2 exceptions). Very little directions to tees. The view from first 7 holes is magnificent as this part of course is quite hilly. Apparently they have only 4 buggies, 2 under repair, 2 won't charge fully, so none available (requested two days before). You need strong legs and good lungs. Value for money at 10GBP (5 for the view and 5 for the course) but doubtful at 15. Looks like the course is being run down. Even the ground staff can't manage a smile. Play it for the view and as an experience but don't expect too much.
Goat Pasture - Not a real course
This place is a not an actual golf course. It was more useful for livestock than a golfer. The 'fairways' were at least two inches long if not longer and all bunkers were GUR, a sure sign that nobody could be bothered to look after the course.
The place was a dump and we walked off after two holes. It's the worst course I've ever played.
A mix up with course and tee off times so had to pay again on the day (money's refunded by tee off times asap so well done). Apart from that it was a pleasurable experience and will go back again.
