Norton Bridge
Norton Bridge, formerly Izaak walton was closed for 12 months and an old member decided to take it on. Rome wasn't built in a day, he had masses of work to do with limited funding. He's now getting there, you can see a massive difference. Problem being to keep improvement he needs funds, so people need to play the course, people that write bad reports aren't helping. For what you pay it's great, a tough not overly long course that definitely requires straight tee shots.
Tough rough
If you are slight;y off the fairway, your ball ends in in 3 inch grass and is very hard to find. They need to cut some if this back to about an inch.
Not bad at all!
I really enjoyed this round of golf on a course with a lot of variation and challenge from the long par 5s to the cheeky par 3s not to mention the crazy 11th over the water. We booked the round on the day and turned up to a half empty course meaning we could play at a decent pace with no stress. Whilst the course could do with a little more mowing and maintenance of the bunkers the greens were of a good quality and every hole had a descent info board. Watch out for the rough as errant shots can see balls easily lost in the nettle filled borders to every hole... but this adds to the challenge of playijg the course well. I had played the course before and in spite of recent management changes I couldn't see much change in the standard and my playing partner who hadn't played the course before is already asking me when I'm free to return for a rematch.
Needs some love and attention
Played at 7am Sunday morning. I have played the course previously a few years ago. I know that the course closed and has re-opened recently.
An enjoyable course to play but greens and bunkers were poor - Needs attention and then it will be a good course to play.
I hope the new owners get it right and build themselves a good reputation.
Would I recommend it to others - Yes with caution!
Don't know about the other facilities as when we turned up at 6.50am the gates were locked and nobody was around to let us in. We played without a score card which was frustrating but added to the challenge.
I enjoyed the golf and wish the new owner well.
HELP THIS COURSE
The management of this course are trying to bring it up to condition following a number of months out of commission. The layout is a good test of golf and the majority of the course is in good condition. I recommend that you give it a go..for this cost, it is worth a knock and your use will help the management bring it up to a better standard.
Needs a lot of work doing to get it up to standard. I know it has recently re-opened but needs a lot of work to get it up to scratch
