Good all round
Good condition considering all the rain over the last few months.
Only 15 holes open but did not cause an issue as greens in great condition.
Great winter conditions
Played on the reduced 2nd course due to the flooding. But the course is still in great condition! Had a really good round, highly recommend! All the staff and members were very friendly too.
Nice Course
From entering the club you are greeted by a very nice looking clubhouse with a blend of the modern and also traditional historic features. I was greeted with a warm welcome and all relevant information was provided. Unfortunately, a couple of holes were closed still due to recent flooding, but it seems they had designed the course with additional greens to be able to add in a couple of holes for this very reason. I believe it did make the course slightly shorter, but a good solution to a problem a lot of courses have had to deal with recently.
Overall, the course conditions were good, tee boxes were a bit worn out in places, but I enjoyed my round, even if my skills didn’t allow me to fully appreciate the setting.
I will return, and would recommend to friends.
After Storm Isha!
Our own course was closed so we opted for The Springs. They had managed to keep the course open in a reduced holes layout. The greens were great for the time of year. The staff were amazingly friendly and welcoming.
Partial course closure
Paid full price and didn’t get told until we arrived that 5 holes were unplayable. Wouldn’t have bothered if I was told before hand, but no information provided by the course or golf now. A really disappointing experience considering the golf course during the summer is great.
Got to try
Apart from only having 15 holes playable due to flooding of the Thames it was a great days golf. The fairways were good for this time of year, greens were running fast and true. Plenty of birdie opportunities. Bit windy but manageable. If you haven’t tried the Course it’s well worth a bash. Loads of practice areas with range, chipping area and great putting green.
Springs golf club
Great course in really good condition considering the rain we have had in last few weeks.
Winter layout- Good Drainage
We normally play at another course, but it gets closed easily with bad weather. The Springs is our go to course as backup.
It's virtually always open apart from extreme weather.
Great greens for the time of year. Great club house. Friendly staff.
In Winter they play an alternative layout because the two holes by the river are closed. Two of the holes on the front 9 are converted from a par 5 to a 4 & 3, and a par 4 to two par 4s. Slightly confusing as the hole markers are left for the normal layout, so when you're on the 10th it's actually the 12th.
Flat course, easy walk. We enjoyed it.
Lovely course with great facilities
Booked this without knowing the course and was very pleasantly suprised at the course condition, clubhouse and facilities. A lot of money appeasr to have been spent over the last few years and it is now a recommended course for a nice round of golf. Some water but not too taxing, lovely trees and open fairways.
Good course.
Course was in great condition. Pace of play was a little slow on the front nine but improved after the group in front left and didn’t play the nine. Will definitely be coming back.
Looking summer ready
Course is in mint condition. The greens have been well prepped for the summer and are running like lightening in comparison to the back-end of winter. A lot of effort has clearly gone into the tee boxes and fairways as they are both looking spectacular. Hope it stays good throughout the summer.
Nice course but..
Lovely course with great on and off facilities. One of the best 19th holes I have seen overlooking the course.
Tee boxes ,fairways and green were very good and very surprising when we have had heavy rain recently.
The only disappointment is that they rejig the course with 2 holes lost due to being too wet as they are close to the river.
On the holes that are altered you haven't a clue what's going on with yards etc.
Course layout changed to suit boggy conditions near river - but not a problem - score cards altered according
Unfortunately stuck behind a slow 4
Enjoyable course will certainly come back
Lovely clubhouse
Shambles
Turning up and seeing a lovely clubhouse we was thinking wow, the course must match the clubhouse, NO!! How wrong could we be, after the first couple of holes we thought this could be quite good, again how wrong could we be, absolute shambles of a course, holes moved no gps no signs to say where we should be going, for someone who hasn’t been there before surely you should be told on arrival about the changes. On the way out we decided to ask in the pro shop why there wasn’t any markers and why hasn’t been changed on the score cards, his reply was, well you should of had this explained to you!! Guess what, it was him that booked us in without explaining this to us, to be honest he didn’t really seem to care what our views were on the course, anyone that is looking to play this, DO NOT believe the reviews on this place, 100 mile round trip to play this was a complete waste of a day
Very, Very disappointing
After reading many reviews and wanting to play somewhere different, myself and 3 others decided to take a trip to this course, and what an error. A total 100 mile around trip and we won't be making it again!
Firstly on arrival 11.45am we queried about having a snack before our round in the lovely clubhouse. Kitchen wasn't open until 12. We then checked in at the pro shop with minimal interaction from a certain member of staff. We headed to the first tee and the tee box was looking ropey. First couple holes were ok, but there was no clear indication to first time players where to head for the next tee, this became a very regular occurrence. The 3rd hole then stated on the scorecard a short par 4 as our gps and teeside sign was telling us it was a long par 5. We hit our tee shots down the fairway not knowing the length of the hole, even when we reached the balls there was no clear indication. the group in front played to the par 4 green however there was 150 yard markers still out for the par 5 course with a green 150 yards away......
As the round went on almost every tee was signed as the wrong number hole, and it was very confusing and made the hole round very unenjoyable. We preferred the back 9 to the front line, however when finishing the 12th hole marked the 11th we headed to the tee behind the green which was marked the 17th. A short par 4 which didn't match the yardage shown on the scorecard, one of us hit our tee shot and then decided to ask the group behind whether we were on the right tee box or not, being visitors they also had no idea (they were also donning hoodies and tracksuit bottoms). Eventually we gambled on heading through a gate and found the next hole. At this point all interest in playing had gone and we were just laughing at the confusing set up. Finally we made it to the 18th hole, trees situated in the centre and left of the fairway, 3 out of 4 of us punished for good tee shots.
Although the golf was poor at best we were looking forward to getting into the lovely looking clubhouse and having some lunch/dinner, to make our 3 hour round journey worth it. Yep, you guessed in the kitchen is closed again, closed at 4pm. So at this point we decided we had to go to the pro shop and give some constructive feedback on our visit. I spoke to the same guy who checked us in and told him our issues. His response was, "we have told a lot of people about the current layout when they check in, I'd be surprised if we didn't tell you" which he definitely didn't. We then complained about the kitchen situation, to which he replied "It's Monday". Brilliant, very helpful and apologetic about our experience..... Not.
We won't be returning and won't be recommending it to family or friends. I really struggle to believe all the amazing reviews we were reading were written by visitors.
Maybe we just caught it on a bad day.
