Interesting and enjoyable

Very windy weather as it has been on all the times I have played at Whitby that made some holes easier and some difficult. The fairways were well maintained however the greens having had work on them were in a very poor state. That said it’s an interesting and generous course and the three shots over ravines particular fun. Disappointing the bar shut at 4.30pm. Fast round at just under 3 hours for a two-ball, only held up on the last two holes.

What a shame

Whitby is a a stunning location to play golf, perched on the cliffs over looking the North Sea. The links style is ideal for mid and high handicappers. There are some tough holes too especially across the ravine.
However the clubhouse and pro shop are largely unmanned. The course is in a poor state. Bunkers neglected and the greens very uneven, patchy and slow.
It is such a disappointment as this is a delight to play and used to be a great track.
It need some some TLC.

Couldn’t book in

Can’t review the course as unable to play. Tried booking for two weeks before a holiday in Whitby, website booking a shambles, tried calling no one picks up, answer machine message says please email for quick response, still waiting after a week for a response. Answer machine message says course is closed so don’t bring clubs,. Arrive on holiday to see people playing!!!!!! Total shambles. Disgraceful way to run things. Envious to anyone who gets to play as it looks a great course. Extremely disappointed

Greens are dead

Unfortunately club house was closed but had a look around and it didnt feel like it had been opened since 1985 looking at the decor. Oh well course should still impress. Tee boxes, fairways were ok but then you reached the greens and there was hardly any grass on the majority of them, not sure if it was a disease or there was a shortage of green staff but it was mainly mud with very little grass. If they are having problems then the price of the round should show that, i would not recommend playing here until the greens are sorted, they ruined our round.

Course good fun , Clubhouse very tired

Very windy ( and initially raining ) when we arrived and ultimately only one other group out on the course.
The Club appears to be struggling to survive and the Clubhouse is in a fairly poor state though it has undoubted potential ?
Course itself had mostly coped with the wind and rain and an enjoyable round overall.

Nice Course

Nice welcome in Pro Shop and advised that greens were being fertilized. They had also recently been tined, but were very playable.

Front 9 and last 2 holes are played on the coastal side, with the remainder being more parkland in style.

Course was very quiet so no problem with pace and once we'd oriented ourselves got round quite well - we were unsure of where the 8th fairway ran but this was not an issue.

Did not visit the club house but others on the course were very friendly.

Coastal heaven

fantastic experience from start to finish from the club shop to the members to the club steward. Every new face came with a broad smile and a friendly hello. The course is challenging, well kept yet not too imposing to varying handicaps .

A great holiday course

Play here with the wife every time we visit Whitby and she loves it. Presents a few challenges, particularly the two holes that cross ‘the gorge’, but generally it’s a nice friendly track with lots of run on the fairways plus receptive true running greens and some great sea views.

Always get a good friendly reception at the pro shop and the members are also friendly & helpful. Bar doesn’t seem to be open late afternoon but is through lunchtime. Food is Ok.

Overall a very nice way work up an appetite & justify a couple of beers before your fish & chips.

A BIT OF A CHALLENGE FOR A HIGH HANDICAPPER

but nevertheless it is a great course with some interesting holes and great scenery. Especially nice when the sun shines, which it did eventually for us.

Lovely course in good condition

The course was in good condition and was celebrating its 125 year..... there was a commemorative booklet on arrival. It had a real buzz about the place which made the experience really enjoyable.

Played with 3 friends (who all play off 28) on a golf weekend. A course of two halves, enjoyed the holes overlooking the sea and the great views. Also the 3rd, 5th & 18th where you had to drive over the gap in the cliffs. Holes over the road for me bit less interesting.
Booked tee time as a HOT Deal so just £10 which was an amazing bargain.
