Great condition for this time of year. 1 and 18 were closed but the rest were good and the greens were excellent
Scalm Park
The course was in decent condition for this time of year. Hole 1 was closed as too wet and there were a few other holes that were really soft under foot, but very understandable with the rain we've had recently. The greens were in really good condition though and the whole course was well trimmed and in pretty good condition. For me, Scalm is a really good budget course that just lacks a better pro shop and a practice green. Maybe a couple of practice nets near the first tee, although there is a payable driving range on site.
Nice golf course
Great condition for the time of year, greens were quite hard making it hard to land the ball and stay on. Over all though it’s a nice coarse, not super challenging but good for a steady game.
Get what you pay for I guess
Player for the first time after it being recommended, I was expecting a tad better. Drive up to the course isn’t “picturesque” let’s say. Placed in the middle of a caravan park which in the summer season is roaming with young kids on bikes/scooters everywhere. Club house was closed when we arrived but the half way house was open which sold lovely butties n cold drinks. The tee boxes need some work. Playing off the yellows, 80% of them had an un-even footing when addressing the ball n divot scared. Fairways where in excellent condition throughout the course. Tough going in the rough in places, but that helps keep the course interesting. Plenty of woodland OB. Only criticism I have about the course layout was for me, there are to many “dog legs”, especially blind ones. Ok if you’ve played before but for the first time it’s very frustrating not being able to see 60% of the hole from the tee. Greens where very soft and pretty slow but in decent nick for this calibre of course. Now tho, It has to have been the longest round of golf I’ve ever played. The two of us tee’d off at 11am and didn’t finish our round until 3.30. We must have waited on every tee for at least 6-8mins, catching up to the lads in front and then the next group catching us up as we tee’d off. I except alot casual golfers stay n play which is fine, but if your taking 8-10 shots and loosing a ball every hole be aware what your doing and let people through. Pint at the end of the round was probably the saving grace. Over all ok, I personally wouldn’t come here again but for the average golfer it’s a cheap n cheerful place to play.
Scalm in Sumner....
Previous visits in March with Society.
Pleasure to play in good weather with course in good (dry) condition.
Well laid out course with one crossover of holes.
Generous fairways, good sized greens, relatively few bunkers.
Some water forming boundaries and oonds in play on 2nd and 10th.
Very good course for beginner or intermediate golfer.
Definitely will vist again this year.
Better than alot of private courses.
Heard mixed reviews about scalm park but decided to give it a chance and glad i did. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is due to pace of play on the day ( told my members its not normally this slow ) and the other fault was no practice green to get used to the slower paced greens on the course. But overall highly reccomend only short but challenging for all abilities.
Mark
Very nice course, well kept, basic layout but very challenging greens, has some nice water features
Half way house for a sandwich & a drink
All in all very good course will definitely play again
Good day
Greens in excellent condition considering the public nature of the course and traffic. Course in overall good condition.
An unexpected little gem
A shortish but fantastic little course, excellent value for money and would recommend it to anyone. Hole 2 is fantastic picturesque par 3 and some well thought out holes that make them tougher than the length would suggest. Give it a go.
Spring sunday
We played this course for the 1st time
We chose it because it seemed value for money and close to where we live .
The course was in good order and not too busy for a Sunday my playing partners were relatively in experienced and found it challenging myself being more experienced I enjoyed the challenge of a new course.
The only thing I found was the greens were a touch on the slow side to what I'm used to but all added to the enjoyment of the day
Great value for money
Good day, coarse in great nick for the time of year. Fairways were winter length but in good condition, some members were still using personal fairway mats hence fewer divots. As it was the Tuesday knock there were a number of groups out but the only 4 ball let us through at the turn as they had the 2 ball in front of us, great etiquette and really friendly. The greens are small but in good condition and still pretty quick and true for the time of year. Great value for money.
4 holes was not playable and was very water logged but definitely would play again when weather gets a bit better.
