Great course
A really nice course, no hole is easy, dog legs right dog legs left, a lot of water, it’s a great course and makes you think about every shot, would highly recommend
Just needs improvement
No pro shop open all day to buy things or rent trolleys/buggies. Wasn’t even sure if the course was open it was so quiet.
Course was incredibly muddy, signs missing, not clear tee boxes, minimal cart paths. Second time in a row it’s just been rubbish and I’ve left thinking I don’t want to play there again
Washed out
I recently played this course and had booked an early morning tee time. The previous nights weather meant it had rained heavily but the course was open so we drove the 30 mins to play.
The course simply should have not been open at all. It was in a poor state. Tee boxes were as long as the rough. 12 of the 18 greens were very very wet and of those 4 were underwater. It has amazing potential to be a great course but sadly just in a state of disrepair and after contacting the hotel, I received no correspondence back enquiring about another tee time or refund due to course conditions.
Also worth mentioning that the Pro shop was shut so refreshments after 9 were from the bar at £3 for a 400ml bottle of water.
Very very poor but yet has so much potential. Possibly a lovely course in the summer but it was far from that on my day.
Awful facilities
The course was waterlogged and can’t be helped however it really should have been closed. We slipped multiple times and in one occasion actually hit the deck.
I have played the course 3 times now and all times have been a little wet. The course is fun with a couple drivable par 4s.
The hotel is awful though. £15 for the worst continental breakfast. The coffee pot is as clogged and when I wiggled the spout, it dumped a load of gunk into the cup. I didn’t dare try it.
The changing room toilets were covered in dried poo with no toilet paper. So I went to the toilets near the restaurant and they also had dried poo up the back of them and a sink full of vomit. If I had paid to stay at the hotel, I’d have been incredibly upset.
All in all, I was glad to play a game of golf but in all honesty the course was unplayable
Nothing good really.
We ended up walking off the course after 9 holes because we had taken over 3 hours to get through the 9 holes alone by that stage. Greens we crazy hard, and the rest of the course had cut grass all over it, tee boxes were a mess and the layout not very good either.
Nice to be back at Hellidon Lakes
I have not played at Hellidon Lakes for over a year, it is usually in good condition but you don't know until you play.
Well, in addition to it being a nice day for golf I have to say that the course is in excellent condition.
The Pro shop was not open and we checked in at hotel reception. There are a few layout changes since we last played which are not posted but they may be regarded as improvements by many.
The rolling hills make this quite physically challenging for older players and anyone with disabilities and although buggies are available driving them needs close attention.
This has got to be regarded as one of the best courses in the area with a challenging layout and a fantastic location at a very reasonable price
The four horseman
Hard slog without a buggy for my buddy
But overall not to bad.
Bit wet in places , and quite hilly.
Also the yellow tee is not clearly marked so played from the wrong place.
Would play there again but with a buggy
Nice course - everything else was a shame !
Nice course in very good condition for early March , however the golf shop was closed and the bar not open till 10 so couldn’t get breakfast and only a friendly staff member going above and beyond meant we got a coffee !
Interesting course.
Interesting course to play.
But pace of play too long 5 hours to get round ☹️
Challenging conditions but very playable
Nice friendly pro shop and felt welcome when we decided to play Hellidon as a 4 ball due to competition tee reservation at our own course.
Took us almost 7 hours. As a 2 ball
4 4balls before us in a big group. Teeing off 40 minutes late already. All in buggies so we didn’t think it would be a problem. Took us nearly 7 hours to get around. Final few holes in near darkness so couldn’t see anything. Waiting 10-15 minutes at ever tee box.
And then we thought we’ll maybe we could at least get a drink after the 9th at the half way house, but no it was closed
The greens nearly as slow as pace of play
Course condition average at best - greens one of the slowest I’ve ever played. The course is quite short with many driveable par 4s, and many holes uninspiring in terms of hazards and layout. The real problem was the pace of play. It took us over 6 hours to finish our round. There was a 40-minute wait on the tee box of the par3 10th and at least a 5/10 minute wait on every other tee box.
Great course for the cost
Course was very well maintained and everyone was very friendly. Front 9 was much better than back 9, but overall a good round. Some interesting and challenging holes
Stunning scenery
A very well laid out course set in beautiful surroundings, some short par 4s but quite testing, the greens were punched but I understand that’s protecting them in winter conditions, didn’t go in the clubhouse so can’t comment, will definitely visit again in the Sumer.
Cheap but not very cheerful
Hotel, bar and staff were great but the course is unloved. General quality was just shabby. Greens were ok but ridiculously sloped so at times an excellent putt just ran away from the pin uncontrollably. Far too many areas of the fairway unkempt. Just disappointing. At £20 on a Sunday afternoon, great value but won’t go back. Staverton only 4miles away is loved
