Houghwood Golf Club

First time playing here and beforehand i could not envisage just how good this course is. Everything about it is first class and a step up in my opinion to all the other courses i have reviewed. Was slightly concerned beforehand as two of us were walking and one was in a buggy. A great walk but for me nothing too excessive. Scenery was unbelievable, as was the course. A mixture of many types of holes. All challenging in their own way, Highlight had to be the 162 yard 8th with a carry across the water to a pin yards from the from edge. Greens were superb, very fast and true. Course was maintained to the highest standards. Members were courteous and friendly. A beautiful course in a beautiful setting. Tried for next week but no tee times in the morning. Houghwood, i will see you soon !!

The course was in great condition.
Layout is well thought out.
Only slight mark down was slow play, but isn’t a reflection of the course, more the two idiots who don’t understand golfing etiquette properly.

Would recommend highly. And at £20 is better value than other clubs locally.

Fantastic course, well maintained and a good test of golf especially when the wind is blowing.

Lovely course well maintained with fast undulating greens. Great views. Unless very fit need a buggy to get around this hilly course with some distance between the odd green and next tee.

Great game of golf today,course was well presented,greens spot on.Special mention to the staff who were very welcoming,buggies a must on this course.

The course was in fantastic condition considering the time of year and recent weather. The bunkers were well sanded and the course was being tended to throughout our round, something you don’t really see this time of year. The course itself played really well,especially with some tricky holes playing long into a strong wind. The greens too were up to a good standard with the recent rain we’ve had,and the fact that it’s early October.I would definitely play there again.

What a day for golf - weather excellent with bright sunshine and a bit breezy!
Course was in fabulous condition even if greens had been tined and sanded they still ran fast and true. Groundstaff were out in force on mowers and the course looked good enough for an Open venue.
Would definitely recommend but get a buggy!

Great golf course, variation of holes is good and definitely some holes for all standards, from long par 5’s to some quality testing par 3’s.

I would recommend getting a buggy though as I although it’s equally as long as other courses I’ve played some of the hills on the course are very steep, save your energy for your shots not the walk

Great course

Couldn't have picked a tougher day to play - the wind was unbelievable, windiest conditions I've ever played in (40mph+). With the course location and wind direction there was no respite and the 11th and 12th were almost unplayable.
But that apart the course was in great condition and the set-up was fair, the rough wasn't too punishing and the greens were really good.
Despite all this managed 98 (24 handicap) net +3!! Delighted with that score as I've played here in perfect conditions and scored much worse. Couldn't fault the day.

Nice layout with a good variety of holes. Course in good condition. Very hilly and for a senior player it might be better to hire a buggy. Overall a good test but enjoyable with good views towards Merseyside and North Wales. Pro shop guy was friendly and helpful. Very impressive Club House too.

Course in great nick for time of year and weather we’ve had lately. Layout superb and greens nice and quick.

Challenging course , greens were a little slow with the rain we had the previous evening.

A very hilly course so plenty of different lies for approach shots so a good challenge for all handicaps.

A buggy is recommended as says very hilly only downside is you have to stay to the track or buggy cuts out so does lead to walking back and forth for your club selection.

This course is a brilliant inland parkland course. Each hole is different and interesting. You won't find many flat lying positions on this course which is my kind of course. A buggy is recommended if you don't have an electric trolley as there are some walks between tees but not to the extent it is an issue. A teriffic course!

First three fairways/holes where a bit wet,but after that the course was great,I would advise to get a golf buggy {£15 very reasonable} as it is quite hilly especially when playing holes 11,12,13, greens were in very good considering the wet weather that has been around the last two weeks.
Score 99 playing off 19 handicap.

Usually really like this place, but today got stuck behind two 4 balls, one which kindly let us through, the other just held us up for 12 holes , obviously members as they were playing off white tees! Totally ignorant of every one around them so beware!!!!
Also very disappointed in the condition of the greens as , how can you charge full green fees when they have just been holatised?
Wont be back here for a while thats for certain!
