Good variety of holes and challenges
Returned to my first course, where I started playing golf 50 years ago!
Lucky with weather, and condition of course pretty good for time of year.
Enjoyable day with so many memories.
Great Course
Lovely course; great variety of holes. Very good greens. We really enjoyed it, only negative was members swearing loudly in the bar afterwards.
A couple of temporary greens and half the tees were mats which is not bad for mid Jan. Spiking was in progress but a few greens affected. Very friendly pro shop and bar staff. Relatively short course with a few challenging holes.
Grumpy Members
Felt like a good experience arriving at the club, Pro and club house staff were very friendly. Although we were early for our tee time we were encouraged to play when we were ready, Unfortunately we then bumped into some very grumpy members on the first tee who were less than welcoming. This spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience
A special place
It was a scorching hot afternoon in July and this was a fabulous course. It's like it shouldn't really exist The holes were all so interesting and each one with it's own character, I loved this place just wonderful. Hats off to the greens staff who even had the fairways looking great eveb with no rain for weeks. The chap in the pro shop was really welcoming and even though I left my wallet and phones he came and found me. Great club lovely people... just a gorgeous place.
Excellent
Excellent course greens in real good condition...one of the best courses we have played.
Brilliant course
Excellent course in very good condition, quick greens and good bunkers. Pro shop was very friendly and pace of play was good. Will play again on next trip back to the Island
The course was great and very friendly members
From the Pro shop, bar staff, members to the course it all was fantastic. go back any day.
Great condition
Even in the wind and rain the course was in wonderful condition. Took 2 friends who had never played SSGC before, they loved it.
Ecellent course in good conditition despite the hot weather
Wonderful
Played here on a lovely summer evening and the great course layout and condition made for a super time despite my indifferent golf. Highly recommended.
A hidden gem
I was greeted by the Pro who was very welcoming. He gave me all the information & advice needed and off to the 1st tee. The course layout and condition was excellent. I thought the greens were a bit on the slow side, but having recently played Woburn where the greens were about 12 on the stimp meter perhaps it was me. Not the longest course but plenty of trouble to keep you alert. Holes 1-13 are the best holes, 13 probably being the pick of them. 14-18 are not bad holes, just not the same standard as the 1st 13 holes. The club website doesn't do the course justice. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
