EXCEPTIONAL VALUE, DO NOT GET PUT OFF BY THE FACT ITS A MUNI!!!!
£18 !!! £18 english pounds sterling !!!!
Second time I’ve played this course. Played it in the darkest winter and was sceptical to how it would be in the summer ….. however I was really pleasantly surprised !! For a municipal council run course they should be very very proud of what they’ve got !
Slightly rough around the edges for example tee boxes could be cut and maintained better, but everything else was fantastic value for money . A bit up and down in places, but some real gem holes, notably the 17th.
Greens were slow for summer conditions and could do with a shorter cut but overall they were all true, just a bit slow for my liking.
Staff were great and the scran in the clubhouse was superb !!
100% coming back
Not as good as it was
Still a lovely and challenging course but greens are the worst I have ever seen them and look poorly maintained the municipal always had fast lush greens but now there dry bobbly and weedy some look like they have a disease.
Tee boxes are also not cut to many where longer than they should be. It’s seems as if investment has been reduced since my time pulled out which is a shame as this place was one of my favourites a few years ago.
This is definitely worth it.
I hadn't played the course for 25 years and myself a 2 others decided to give it a go. On a Beautiful sunny day we pulled up at the course which I had booked through golfnow. The golf pro in the shop was welcoming and interested in making sure we were good to go. The course itself was in pretty good condition, the green were a little pitted due to previous golfer not repairing their pitch marks, but this didn't spoil the game. The whole course was a beautiful walk, with some challenging holes. We stopped at the 19th after and here the staff were friendly and welcoming. As a municipal course, I would highly recommend this course to all golfers, especially those looking for a first 18 at a very reasonable price if £18. Give it a go.
Difficult features
Fairways need to be cut back a little more and cuttings removed. Quite a few boggy areas along the course with challenging holes which makes you think alot about the shot to play.
Society day 😪
For some unknown reason the golf club decided to send me out behind a group 32 players in a society match....play was so slow I left after 5 holes. Really disappointed!!
Challenging and undulating course
Always enjoy playing the muni although when busy can take a good 4 hrs to get round 18 holes. When the course is in great condition it’s a joy to play and thankful it is now back in the hands of the council so you can see improvements being made after Mytime let it deteriorate. This could be a championship standard course with a little more money spent on it and would say it is one of the best courses in the area.
Best value course in Hampshire
It was my first time playing this course and it is the cheapest 18 holes that I've played (£16). The overall condition of the course is excellent - hats off to the green keeping team for managing it so well. All holes at the moment were off winter tees, but that didn't bother me. The tee boxes looked great and I'm sure they will be available to use soon. The greens were quick and some nice wide fairways. I will be coming back here on a regular basis and will bring friends when they visit the area. I was playing mid-week so it was very quiet.
Great value for money on a nice layout
For under £20 this course is a must play during the summer months. Tees and fairways are not the greatest but considering the course is maintained by the council they are fine. The greens were in super condition and a joy to putt on. Staff were very friendly in the clubhouse.
Great municipal golf course
Great course and a real test for any golfer. The new bar layout in clubhouse very good and bar staff very friendly
Municipal Gem
Why do we not have more golf courses like this. Affordable, accessible and open to all. The course is challenging and interesting. The council staff are equal to green staff at a premium private club. I would imagine it is a better summer course than a winter one
Tricky Course Good Layout
Nice course tee off and greens not brilliant but I’m sure as the summer goes on they will get better
We had a tee off at 11am but the tee time was changed to 11:30 apparently they can do that
Frustrated
So we tee’d off at 16.10 and left the course after 9 holes at 19.03 as the 2 four balls in front of us where VERY SLOW and when we see them waiting to tee off on the 10th we decided to call it a day. Paid for 18 holes but don’t think we’d have got 14 holes in at the rate it was anyway. Normally we can get around in 4 hours for 18 so frustrating really.
