Impressed
I was very impressed by the upgrades to the course, which was in superb condition. I was a member here about 12 years ago and liked what I saw.
Shame could not get drink or anything after as bar closed except for members. Also loud stag party seems to have taken priority
Would have liked to ask about membership but pro shop also shut by then
Poor experience for the money.
When the highlight of the round is a good soapy ball wash, it speaks volumes. £25 for a midweek, mid day round only to be told to play off a mat on the fairway and temporary tee boxes, but it’s ok for carts to have been driven over greens. Poor
One of my favourite courses
Always enjoy playing this course when it is in good condition, as it was during my round when it was excellent apart from one or two greens which had been returfed and were just bedding in again
Beware the Ladies 4 ball
Played this course once before in the winter, and upon finding Skylark had come up on hot deal for a very very reasonable price for a pre 1300 tee time, I was very excited to get a round at skylark once again . Upon arrival the lad in the pro shop was very friendly and as I was early it was no bother in teeing off 30/40mins early.
However, this was the last time all seemed well…… from the 2nd tee onwards until the 10th I was stuck behind a ladies 4 ball whom so it seemed for one had never known the simple etiquette of ‘letting through’ a 1ball . Multiple times I arrived on the tee and there was not one acknowledgment from them to let me play through…… let’s just say they very much were the stuck up members type whom frowned upon a non member golfer.
At the turn I decided to skip holes 10 & 11 and from there on in the rest of the round was a true delight. 2 more groups of members let me through and were extremely friendly. After finishing 18 I returned to the 10th & 11th and finished of my round no dramas.
Overall I enjoyed my round at Skylark, yet it was rather tarnished by the ladies 4 ball whom really need to spend more time in learning golfing etiquette and honing in their skills on the range not the course.
Highlight !!!!! Absolutely stunning greens. Great pace and exceptionally true in all conditions
Gorgeous setting, great conditions
Me and a friend had a lovely round here, fairways and greens were excellent and very consistent.
A special location with beautiful views and the feel of a private club, yet everyone was very friendly to us non members.
High handicapper friendly as holes are short enough to leave the driver at home and still be able to score well.
Will be back!
Boggy though still enjoyable
I've never seen the course so boggy, and as a former member I'm acquainted with winter conditions here, however all the greens and bunkers were very playable and all holes were still in play, unlike other courses in the area which have been forced to close holes or use temporary ones due to the relentless appalling weather, so maybe the course staff deserve congratulations rather than brickbats for it being open at all. I still enjoyed the course and played surprisingly well.
An excellent day out
Good course but some teeing areas under repair. This didn't distract from the pleasure of the round. Facilities are very good and the staff friendly and helpful.
Good course
As ever the course was challenging; every hole has it's difficulty and the course has been made more high handicapper friendly, less loss of balls etc.
Hidden gem
Great course and good value . I use to be a member when it had previous owners about 20 years ago. But new owners have made excellent improvements. Green are now excellent, new bunkers adding to the challenge of this good par 69 course.
Excellent day out
Difficult weather but the course was in excellent condition you have to think through every hole and only good shots rewarded
Course & greens in excellent condition
Perfect day. Rain when unpacking and packing but not a drop during round. Course in ideal condition
Recommended
Played Skylark several times and never had a bad experience here either with the condition of the course, the food, the pro shop or any staff ….. bravo ……. Not a difficult course so perfect for mid to high handicappers, some interesting holes and is a thinking man’s course that’s part of the enjoyment of plotting your way round. Played during the drought and the greens were immaculate so big shout out to the green keepers
Interesting layout
First time visitor. Not long but good challenge with variety of holes with clever bunkering. Good greens. Drought conditions made fairways fast as on other courses but all playable.
