Challenging course
Fantastic little course. Thought it would be straight forward due to the distance but it was very tough. The greens were in unbelievable condition. Will definitely be going back to try and score better.
Very hilly
This course would suit a mountain goat. Very steep in places and loose gravel/ shingle on paths potentially dangerous. Need to be fit. Better signage to next hole would be advantageous for new or infrequent players. (9 hole played off two tees for a full round). Fairway grass was cut a little on the long side making finding your ball difficult even after a good tee shot. Fallen leaves (lot of trees) didn’t help but that’s to be expected this time of year. On the plus side, greens were very good, course was interesting with lovely views. Staff and players were friendly. Could be better with a few tweaks. Remember to pack oxygen and climbing ropes on your first visit 😁
Great challenging course.
A great challenging course with great views. Very peaceful and a great pace of play with no one really in front or catching you up behind.
Only downside to get a full 5 star review was the greens had just recovered from maintenance and have only been seeded for 2 weeks so we’re quite rough, sandy and hard to judge.
Alton Golf Course last minute choice
Alton is a 9 hole course that you play from different tees to make the 18.
The staff make you feel very welcome on arrival and are very accommodating (I arrived a little early and they managed to get me out a little ahead of time).
The course itself is in very good condition, scenic, well laid out and quite challenging in parts. I particularly liked the par 3 12th (hole3) and the following par 4 4th/13th both of which requires a drive over a deep gully.
The clubhouse is functional with a small bar area. There is a small veranda with tables overlooking the 9th/18th green and an indoor seating area if the weather is not so good.
A little more/better signage would be beneficial I think, perhaps some yardage markers, and a chap who took a buggy seemed a bit confused about where to go from the car park, but overall this was a very pleasant experience.
I shall definitely come back.
Review
Excellent 9holes with different tees for the 2 nd 9 .. it is hilly
A little gem
Not local to me, I had a bit of business to do, so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone.
Very friendly lady behind the counter and an old boy chatting away to me, told me he was the ex captain and 90 years old.
Lovely course and the greens were in excellent condition.
Small friendly course
A nice 9 hole (with different tee boxes to make an 18 hole) course. Will challenge your game as very few flat lies. Lovely undulating Hampshire countryside. It got a bit busy in the morning when crossing with other groups playing the “back 9”. Was still a bit wet and greens very soft, but will be very nice in the summer
Alton 9 Green 18 tees
1st tee nice dogleg right slightly down hill is an easy par 4 making you think that it's any easy course. By the time you're on the shortish par 3 with the green set on the other side of a valley you realise that it's not easy and precise distance and direction is required. After that you drive across a very deep valley to a sloping fairway and a second to a green down hill in the distance.
It was a great experience with pleasant views across the tree clad hills. Both of us enjoyed the day we had there and played to our handicaps, yes, the fairways were spongy and lush, yes, the greens were well cared for and presented a challenge to read.
The sausage roll in the clubhouse was delicious and at a sensible cost.
The tees for the second 9 were different enough to continue the challenge and we both will go back again once we have completed other challenges local to our home club at Puttenham.
Friendly members
Didn’t realise this was a nine hole when I booked as I probably wouldn’t have bothered but I’d have missed a lovely wee spot. Everyone was very welcoming and we teed off in front of a group of members who made sure we got round in the right order. Greens were decent and a lot better than some I’ve played on recently. My only complaint would be that the tee boxes were a bit lumpy
Friendly staff and great little course
Always friendly members on and off the course, made me feel welcome and offered advice and support
Really maintained course and currently installing sprinklers, course plays well great scenery
Will be bk again
A good fitness workout
On arrival we were greeted and instantly made to feel welcome. Having never played here before we a member kindly explained the course and it’s local rules. The course itself is challenging enough and has some well set out holes. It takes a bit to work out where the holes go especially on the second round as it’s a nine holer with eighteen tee points. It had rained heavily prior to our round and unfortunately that made the course very sticky and muddy in places but he greens held up well. Be prepared for a leg workout as at least 2 of the holes have bid hills to navigate 3rd and 4th. Will definitely return when weather is better
Very friendly welcome
OK, so it was quite damp underfoot and the ball was not running but the course was quiet and all the folks there were really friendly and helpful. Suited me well, as I don't hit the ball very far - a longer hitter might find it abut too easy but I really enjoyed the round. Would go back on a sunny day
