Get what you pay for
Wasn’t impressed with the course, young lads running on the greens trying to steal balls. Couldn’t tell the difference between the rough and fairways at some points ! Greens where poor in areas. Unfortunately I won’t return to play this course Until the summer.
Great value for money
The average round of golf costs around £13-£26 depending on the tee off time and day! I have played here now on various days throughout the week and variable tee off times! And this great little golf course comes in at the lower end of £12 a round less then 70p per hole! And for the layout and accessibility it’s easily one of my favourite when you put everything into consideration!! One last thing, the course difficulty is aimed at all golfers so anybody will have a great day here
Flat course
This is a nice little flat course i enjoyed! And no trolley required as its a nice level course
Poor condition
First of all, I booked through the app paying 32 pounds for the two of us, which I thought was cheap, however when we got there we where told we could of booked directly with the course for 10 pounds each?? The course itself , very poor condition, tees where poor and uneven, even difficult to find! Hardly any directions, several other visitors asked us for help finding the next tee as they made there way around the course behind us. The greens were shocking, really rough. Fairways the same, perhaps due to Covid, the course has been neglected. We both agreed , never to come again, also highly unlikely we will use the golf app again to book with.
Beware of the kids
Course is in 2 sections. Section close to clubhouse is ok. Have to cross a road which takes you towards a housing estate. Kids riding up and down the fairways and greens on motorbikes. Hit our tee shot, kids ran off with our balls! Greens overall are poor! Long grass and bobbly.
What a pity
Always wanted to play this course as I have often passed it on the M61.
Whilst the course was good the greens were awful.
They were bunny with many damaged areas. Some of them were unplayable.
A members informed us that vandals had caused problems as well as birds.
A real pity. Would like to lay it again if in good condition
Great Lever and Farnworth golf course
The fairways weren’t in bad condition however the greens apart from one or two were not good. There are two areas to the course on both sides of Plodder Lane, we found the area to the north (clubhouse side) better than the south side of the course. There were a few youngsters on the course not playing golf and a couple of them were riding cycles on the greens. On the positive side staff and members very friendly and the clubhouse had very good facilities
Played this course a few times over the years but on this occasion the greens in particular were sub- standard ( sparse & bumpy ) . Should improve however now the grass growing season is here ( hope so ! )
First time here
I enjoyed the course, but the first cut was a little messy in places, otherwise course was in good shape, although bunkers did lack rakes so were a bit lumpy.
Signage from green to next tee was poor and course seemed a bit haphazard - never played over a green from the tee before!
My playing partners were less impressed but they can be harsh - too flat and featureless was one comment.
I will play here again but will try some other courses first.
Unfortunate day for golf
First time at Great Lever and Farnworth on a cold sunny October morning. Told on arrival that greens were temps which we thought was due to the overnight frost so a bit deflated when we teed off. Course is short but some challenging holes but putting on temps was a waste of time. Later informed by greenkeeper the the temp greens were down to local scooters vandalising the greens. Staff and members friendly, just picked a bad day.
What a shame!
Normally this is a good go to course, I’ve played here many times. Generally it’s in good condition, maybe boggy through the middle part of the round at times.
Yesterday, the tee blocks were not the best but not the worst I’ve seen either. Fairways were immaculate and so was the rough. The bad part. Greens were awful. Never had to experience anything as bad. Huge holes throughout, impossible to keep a putt online and you can see there trying to grow them out so majorly slow.
I like this course, normally good value for money but it’s going to take time to repair those greens.
Terrible greens, poor fairways and feral kids
Course in very poor condition. Greens truly awful and lots of feral kids on the course trying to steal golf balls.
Freindly welcome in the pro shop but will not be back.
Sorry great lever and farnworth
I have played this course on several occasions and today was the worst condition I have ever played. The greens were awful and on three greens the ball jumped 90 degrees off line and spoilt the day.
Greens Not Good Enough
Played this course a few months ago in the good weather & it was great (previous review). But since the weather turned the greens are showing lots of wear, patchy & bumpy.
So we will not be playing the course again this year.
Not helped by us also being slowed down initially by senior player toddling along on his own at snail's pace.!!
There are better deals at better looked after courses.
Good course, really friendly members and staff. The greens were in excellent condition the only down fall for this course is it’s layout and on course directions we got lost a few times as there is no signage. The rough is a nightmare to get out of so get your driving on point. We will play here again definitely
