Great course
I’d spent too much time on a 9 hole local course and needed to play 18 with a challenge. This course certainly provided it! The conditions were great for mid January and the signage was very good finding the next hole and hole description.
For a 36 handicapper it was demanding and the hilly course provided great views when I caught my breath. I intend to go back and play again.
The club has boot cleaner machines and a nice bar to celebrate a decent round. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
Friendly club
The course like most was wet wet wet and the grass hadn’t been cut recently. Played with my son and we both enjoyed the course layout, although there are some walks between green and the next tee, well sign posted. Will have to go back here in the summer when the course should provide a great challenge while not being daunting. Thoroughly recommend for a knock.
Poor
Tees were poor. Fairways were poor. Directions around the course was poor. The only real thing that was good were the greens. But for similar price, better courses available.
Fun course!
First time playing here yesterday, visiting from Michigan, US. We played the yellow tees as we were not familiar with the course, and it was a good combination of opportunities and challenges. Keep the ball in play, or reasonably close to the fairway and there are plenty of pars to be made. Conversely you can easily get into trouble with a wayward tee shots! Greens are on the smaller side and require an accurate approach shot. Nice course, with friendly staff and a casual atmosphere. Will definitely play again on my next visit.
Fairways and tees could do with a good cut but greens in very good condition overall course in good nick shame about the golf
Poor condition
Fairways not cut hard to tell fairway from rough. No bunkers all overgrown. Greens ok but need cutting and work. Generally course in poor condition and unkept
Overpriced for the condition of the course
First time
First time I’ve been to this course, nice staff very helpful, took me a lil bit of figuring out of the course but I enjoyed my round and will back to try beat my score
Good value for money
Due to rain of biblical proportions, the course was very wet and muddy HOWEVER -
I was welcomed in the clubhouse by a very friendly staff member. Members/guests who were already there greeted me openly which is quite rare for an Essex course.
To be clear, the course was sodden in places, ground water saturated the valley parts and made a very hilly parkland course challenging just to tranverse the course let alone play. How the greenkeeper and management managed to keep the course open and playable is a testament to their dedication. I came across 1 green with a small amount of sitting ground water and 1 green in need of some TLC but, considering the recent weather, it was amazing that it was only those 2. The other 16 greens were absolutely fine. The areas around the tees were muddy in places (due to high footfall from players) but it really wasn't an issue at all.
I played on my own but the 4 in front me (and the three in front of them) kept to a good level of speed so no silly delays like i've experienced at other courses in North Essex. I completed the round in 3hrs 40 mins. 7 temporary tee boxes and NO temporary greens made me a happy chap indeed.
I would happily recommend this course to friends and colleagues and would love to visit again when it's drier just so I can really experience the challange those course provides!
Rude owner and poor course.
The course itself wasnt the best. Not kept well and greens were unplayable at parts. Owner and manager Mr Bugg, very rude and abbrasive. Booked a round but needed a buggy. Told they dont do doubles buggies, even though the course website stated they do so misleading. Very rude and defensive when trying to point this out (so it can be rectified) and hung up on me twice. Not recommended
Bad Condition
Played yesterday and the course was in a bad way.
From tee to green it was absolutely solid, the tee boxes were dusty, bumpy and really badly kept, the fairways were rock hard but the weather has been really hot but they look like they haven’t been since a drop of water in a year, the greens were awful and flooded in parts due to a poor sprinkler system.
Course layout wasn’t great, confusing at times for a first time player.
The holes are challenging with most of the front 9 being either drastically down or uphill.
May try again in different conditions but not worth playing in its current state
Nice friendly course, except some members
Played few times here and is nice for the price. This time however a fourball in front were playing so slow and miles behind play but wouldnt let us through even though we were two ball which meant it ended up 3 groups deep on the tee we had to skip two holes to avoid it. Round would have been 5.5 to 6 hours as it was 20 mins a hole at least.
They said they were in a "comp" but they were so rubbish and far behind any other group they should still let others through really poor golf etiquette which spoilt the round.
Average course
Challenging course , friendly staff .
Fairways need attention (mowed)and in particular the tee boxes hard and bumpy
Confusion in layout of course
Great all round Golf course
1st impressions when I arrived were fantastic, A lovely welcome from the owners in the clubhouse, It was explained to me that the majority of bunkers were out of play due to ongoing development works, I tee'd off behind a 3 ball who I was told were slow players but they let me pass at the 2nd hole so no hold up at all, the course is tricky due to the nature of the valley. Nice course layout.
Nice wide fairways compared to my usual courses so hit a lot of FIR's for a change. Would defiantly recommend and will certainly visit again when in the area. 5*
Greens like the moon surface
I play off 10
Great course layout with some brilliant tee shots but the general upkeep let’s it down. Bunkers are all gur and greens are shocking but for 14£ what do you expect..
The course is ok but greens were uncut and so was the fairways looked untidy
Lay out was awesome greens were all kept to the best quality.
