Why?
My first experience was a pompous member coming over and telling me to change the way I was wearing my cap on the first tee. I thought we had moved on from this antiquated idea. Does it really bother you that much?
Interesting holes but not in great condition is my view of the course but experiencing the attitudes of people who are so unwelcoming in modern golf is so very off putting
Beautiful views and scenery
This course is not easy, it's a good challenge; unfortunately it's not quite a fair challenge when the greens aren't as good as they should be. Don't get me wrong this is still a great course to play and the scenery and views are absolutely stunning but I just think for the cost it should be better. I understand courses can't be perfect all the time and it's still early in the season but as a pay and play guest the patchy areas of the fairways and sandy greens make me wonder how often I'd come back - I will be back because it's a course well worth playing
Held up from the rain well
Greens ran well. The day after some pretty strong storms, so was muddy. But could be seen that in better conditions would be a cracking track
Excellent course
Beautiful golf course set in amazing countryside. At 6K yards off the yellow tees it suits long hitters. There are a couple of very challenging long par fives including the opening hole which is 580 yds. I would love to go back there again.
Interesting course
The first time I played here I had a buggy; this time I walked and enjoyed it more. I really like this course, it is quite challenging for me a 15 handicapper but a fair test, course was in excellent condition; will play again.
Give Woosie some love!!!
Myself & a friend played the Woosman course on 14/04/21. The weather was cold but dry.
Anticipation was high as the Ian Woosman had a major hand in designing the course & I’m pleased to report that there is no doubt that the design of the course is excellent with subtitle hallows & well positioned green side bunkers & narrow false fronts to the greens meant that a well executed approach shot was required to access the flag. Although the fairways were in good condition the sad fact was that bunkers were missing sand & were left untidy. Whilst the greens were in poor condition & several tee boxes were patchy & some looked unkept. So overall the course was generally good but it could have been so much better if a little more love & attention was spent on greens, bunkers & tee boxes. If this was done then the Woosie course would provide a great golf experience that the design deserves.
Not the gem it once was
It is over 10-years since I played this course and unfortunately it has slipped in terms of presentation and upkeep. It still represents a good challenge and can be enjoyed but it has been somewhat neglected over the years, which surprised me a little as the sister course at the Oxfordshire is kept in much better condition..
Wonderful course
Course is well designed with the course being in excellent condition. Played with a friend who is a member there three times now - well worth the drive from Brighton.
Good design, greens decent, fairways on the way back
After the serious Leatherjacket Beetle issues, the course is now starting to get back to normal.
Fairways are still noticeably bare in places, but you can see the work that has been done.
Recent dry conditions and lockdown couldn't have aided the recovery.
Greens were good, bar 2 of them, where what looked like bird damage had occured.
The course remains challenging and with hard ground it was tough to hold fairways and greens, even with decent shots. The rough was distinctly cut at 2 levels and balls hard to find unless you were almost on top of them.
Nevertheless, it was noted that via Golf Now, 2 weeks ago the Green fee was £50 and i wouldnt have paid that. However, with the fee dropping to £35 i thought it was worth a go.
Course was quiet and significantly more were playing the Old Course.
I would hope by the end of the Summer, the course would be hopefully nearing a significantly better condition and near nornal, allowing golf to be enjoyed by all.
Clubhouse was closed due to Virus conditions of play.
