Dreadful
I can't comment on all of the course, as half of it was closed, however, the holes which were open were pretty much waterlogged. Only a few greens weren't temporary, fairways were soaked and covered in debris, so led to losing balls even when hit straight. All in all, this course should not have been open, and even though I was informed of holes being shut, I was not told the rest of the course was so badly altered.
Information on the status of courses need to be communicated on the app, via the course officials, prior to people booking.
Barnard Castle GC
Wet conditions when we visited but all the same the course played well, is very picturesque and a challenge to any golfer with its many tributaries running across or alongside fareways.
Will definitely be returning for a second round.
A Northern Gem
What a beautiful course. The course played a little long as they had just had heavy rain but still the course was in beautiful condition. The greens were amongst the best we have played on .... very true. It has a number of challenges to test your game but not too much for an average golfer. The staff and members made us feel very welcome. There is a lovely modern lounge serving food with views out onto the course. We will return.
Barnard Castle
Well worth a visit. Lovely sausage sandwich and coffee served by friendly welcoming staff. The we played a well prepared course. Perfect day.
Great course and fantastic staff.
We arrived at the course to discover our tee time had been double booked with a visiting ladies group who had all of the tee times booked for the late morning/early afternoon..The staff were brilliant (if a little bit confused as to how this happened) and assured us they’d work something out to ensure we would still be able to play. Fortunately we’d arrived over half an hour early. We were eventually teeing off about 15 minutes earlier than originally planned. The course was in excellent condition and we had a really enjoyable round of golf. As has been the case in the past, both staff and members were very friendly. Definitely one of my most favourite courses in the area. If it was a bit nearer to home I’d be enquiring about membership. The only disappointment was that by having to tee off a little earlier I missed out on the excellent sausage sandwich in the clubhouse!
One of my favourite golf courses
Made my third visit to Barnard Castle Golf Course today. The course had been very well tended overall especially the tees and greens which were in excellent condition. There are some challenging holes and some very much less so, but it is a joy to play. The staff in the shop and bar are so friendly and accommodating. In fact today’s round should have been a week ago but the weather intervened and the club were more than happy to rearrange the GolfNow booking. A delicious sausage sandwich and pot of tea in the bar started the day off well. I’ve played here three times now and never had a problem with any of the members I’ve encountered, they seem a generally friendly bunch. If it was a little bit closer to home I’d join!
Barnard Castle
Course in fantastic condition & quiet (played on Monday). Would recommend.
Great Friday round
Played this course for the 4th time and it didn't disappoint. The condition of the course was immaculate. The greens were superb. They ran true and fair. The bunkers were full of sand and easy to come out of ( not like some courses I've played recently). The green keeping staff should be applauded for the work they have put in on this course. My only negative is that the rough is so long that you've nearly zero chance of finding any ball that goes in it, bit tbh every course is like that lately, WHY?!?!. The clubhouse bar is friendly and comfortable with a good offering of food and drinks. The putting green is in very similar condition to the course greens which is a big help before the round unlike many other courses I could name. There's a small practice the back of the clubhouse, with a practice net and a good pitching area. Again another big plus. The only thing I'd say the club could do with is an outside drinking area, as on hot days that we
played it would've been nice, but tbh this is a very minor issue considering all the plus's this club does have.
Thanks Barnard Castle for a great round. I will be back
Played 18/05/23
Played Barnard castle quite a few times now since covid either a two ball or a three ball.
Tha staff are always make you welcome and the ladie in the pro shop is really helpful.
You always get a friendly welcome in the club house and the bacon and egg butties are next to none as play different courses through out the year and always have bacon and egg butties and I can honestly say these are up there with the best
The course is always in excellent condition even in the winter and can be quite challenging the 17th hole especially
Would recommend this course to any golfer to play
Excellent course
We found this course in great condition considering the time of year. The course layout is challenging and beautifully laid out.
Lots of hazards to negotiate which made the course both challenging and interesting.
Staff and members were both friendly and helpful
Good Track
Course and greens were very good for the time of year would recommend
Winter Greens and the 8th hole closed
A nice course to play during the summer months, but too many temporary greens/tees and one hole closed when we played.
Barnard Castle
Great course conditions great considering weather. 7 temp holes but we’ll placed and good. Regular greens excellent. Very friendly staff . Excellent bacon roll & coffees in club house.
Love playing this course. Played here before. Will be back again.
Great New Years Eve day out
My friends & family four-ball on New Years Eve here at Barnard Castle has now become a regular event. The course was great despite the recent rain fall, the staff welcoming, and no winter greens or tees made for a wonderful afternoon out. We fitted in 18 holes despite an 11:40 tee off time and everyone agreed to regroup again next year if we are all still here! Winter or Summer in my experience you always have a great time at Barny. Go and see for yourselves.
