Great track
Three of us wanted a game somewhere different and Bridport didn’t disappoint.
Great layout, well placed bunkers, rough etc but space if you play the right shot.
6th hole could play all day
Great views of Dorset coast
Overall a great course
Great all round track
Loved it. It was the only course in the area which was fully open as all other courses were water logged, Bridport was spot on, not a single damp patch. Great facilities for warming up and unwinding after. Will definitely be going back. The views alone are worth the green fee.
Lovely day stunning course just a few problems
We were met by a couple of four balls and being a two ball inevitably caught them up. One four ball were most accommodating letting us play through. However there was another who hadn't teed off the 16th when we were putting on the 15th as they were busy standing around taking photos and talking. My playing partner and myself thought they'd let us. They proceeded to then to tee off and took their time on doing so. Didn't mind to much as was nearly finished.
However on a beautiful Saturday afternoon I was appalled to find the bar shut at 18:00 when we got in. With at least an hour and a half of sunlight this shocked us.
The course was in great condition apart from the green as looked like they had maintains week before we played so greens weren’t as great as they are
Overall would have been 5 out of 5 but greens were very bobbly, which is a shame as usually excellent. Course is still brilliant and view are stunning. Staff are very friendly and helpful and managed to get out earlier than booked.
Nice day out
Course and greens good. Catering good. Enjoyable day.
Beauty and Challenge: a great combination
A stunning course with spectacular views along the Dorset Jurassic coastline from Portland Head to Lyme Regis. Inland you have the beauty of the Bride valley with green fields running right up the fringes of Bridport, a lovely market town.
The course is in great shape with well kept and immaculate fairways, manicured and quick greens, and the usual thick rough that plays havoc with any handicap. The winter (Astro) tees are still in operation and even they are well maintained and easy.
A lovely afternoon with two of my sons and we all had an excellent round. Strongly recommend this course to all comers.
Well worth a visit
Played end of January as I was looking for a course that was fully open. Played of mats on the tee which were fine, a few shortened holes which only really impacted the experience a couple of times.
Greens were very good for January. 11am Friday and the course was quiet with nobody in front for all 18. Really enjoyed my visit and the course didn’t disappoint.
Will definitely be back.
Play if only for the 6th
Tha large and imposing clubhouse viewed from the drive in is a little flattering because once you get inside it looks a little dated. The pro shop is not massively stocked but they did have a choice of old push trolleys, which were free or electric motokaddy trolleys for hire at £15. There is a range, chipping area and putting green for pre course prep. We had been placed behind a ladies 4 ball on the start sheet but they very kindly let us go first, which was a lovely gesture.
The course itself is well presented and dry in spite of the mountains of rain we have had lately so that was great and the greens are firm, true but a little patchy, rolled nicely though. There are a few truly memorable holes to look forward to namely, for me, the 6th which is a short par 3 off the top of a hill with the coast path and sea to the left, spectacular. The 7th is a drivable par 4 back up the hill and the 16th stands out, a long par 5 with some fantastic undulations. The rest of the course is a little samey in my opinion, typical of seaside golf and because of this I struggled at the end to remember all the holes.
I’d definitely play again if in the area and enjoyed the day plus the views are spectacular.
Cold and windy
Don't forget to check the forecast before playing here!
It's very exposed on high ground looking over the Channel and last Thurs it was not forecast to rise above 6* with 20+mph wind. Boy oh boy, there was no respite.
That said, the course was in it's usual good condition. There's little danger of frost any day and heavy rain is just cast off. Only the first, which is flat and low lying showed signs of standing water. Everywhere else is well drained and we were on mats and full greens throughout. Fairways are generous and first cut is a fair length.
I've played a number of times before and keep returning. Choose a warmer and calmer day and it's a lovely place to be.
Cracking Clift top course
A great course with fantastic views. I played this course in late December following a weeks worth of poor weather. The course was in great condition fairways on the softer side,( however no mud on my shoes!)its to be expected considering the rain the previous week , greens receptive and very nice to putt on. No wind on the day I played, so a low score followed, I have been informed it’s not normally this benign, so make the most of it ! I highly recommend this course to anyone who likes playing golf the traditional way.
Hot Day
3rd time we’ve played this course but the first time in the hot summer months. Unsurprisingly fairways were very hard so seemed to find the rough more often but that is as much a reflection on my golf than the condition of the course. A ball in the longer rough is as good as lost hence opted for some safety play off the tee on the back nine. Club was busy but play kept moving at a reasonable pace. Friendly staff (although bar shut fairly early which slightly curtailed our post match analysis). I’m pretty sure we will be back again.
Lovely course
Always a pleasure to play Bridport. Well worth a visit a very challenging course with views to die for
