Great day at Newquay Golf Club

Excellent day, staff helpful, members very friendly and course in great condition, especially the greens and bunkers. Views fantastic and well worth playing if you are visiting Newquay or a local who just hasn't played the course before as I was. So all very positive but a few suggestions, there are very few distance markers so challenging if you have not played the course before, a course planner would have helped, should have bought one from the pro shop. Flag colours were mixed which didn't help locating the correct green. Minor suggestions, otherwise a great day at Newquay, we hope to go back at some stage and I can thoroughly recommend the course.

A challenging course

Okay straight and avoid the rough... for a course with v few trees it’s v easy to lose ballls in the thick grass. Not a course to drive big..,concentrate on shot selection and try and avoid the bunkers... greens are fabulous well kept.

Course is a great test!

We got to the course early and had a bite to eat in the clubhouse whose staff were friendly and welcoming. We then checked in at the club shop and loads of signage around social distancing which was good. The round was played in both dry and wet weather as you would expect ! The course was in good condition, greens were well manicured and the pace of play was great.. no waiting at all on any hole. The course has great character with blind tee shots, dog legs, pot bunkers, dog legs but even though a am a 20 handicapper I felt it a fair test. Will definitely play again.. and the views... fab.

Lovely course

Lovely course in very good condition it’s not overly long but it’s very tricky with narrow fairways and rough you need to avoid
Make sure you have your camera with you as the views across the course with fistral beach in the background are beautiful

Great Facility

Very good overall & finally played here after many years saying we'll get round to it. Friendly staff which made us feel very welcome. A great facility run by good folk. Many thanks & we hope to return soon when we're down this way again.

Fantastic conditions

The course was immaculate! Still playing from summer tees, I was surprised to see greenstaff rolling the greens between Christmas and New Year! They were in excellent condition and the rest of the course was drier than some courses in the height of summer! The layout is excellent and the gin clear skies contributed to our experience by emphasising the fantastic views available throughout the round. The only thing that spoiled the visit was pace-of-play. Obviously lots of people know how good the condition of the course is and it was packed; 2hrs 40mins for the front 9 meant that we (2 ball) never had chance to complete our round despite teeing off 3hrs 45mins before sunset. Many of the members in front of us left the course after 11 holes, with no hope of completion which meant pace-of-play improved but we still only made it to 16 and didn't get to finish what would have been a very enjoyable round.

Lovely compact course

Lovely compact course played in a howling gale = too good for me! Mind you, when the ball was oscillating on the fairways at times most would struggle. The course was in really good condition and has some great bunkers. The greens ran true. I read some of the complaints about signage but the club pro gave a great top tip of generally looking long and left for tee boxes and I had no problems finding my way around. All in all would definitely recommend and I will return.

Perfect weather

This is an acceptable seaside course for holiday visitors. The staff were most helpful. Unfortunately the pace of play was unacceptable - this is killing golf today. It was great to start and we had played 7 holes in 75 minutes - the next 9 holes took 135 minutes and we gave up after 16 holes.

NO CHANGE HERE

Although I'm local and had played this course only once before 8 years ago, I'd purposely avoided playing again here because the directional signage around the course was practically non-existent (so bad we once played to the wrong tee) but when I mentioned it in the Pro Shop after the round he couldn't have cared less and said 'people keep saying that', also adding that the signage would be re-vamped 'soon'. It was only that when a deal came up on Teeofftimes recently that a mate and I decided to play again. Sadly, no change. I mentioned the previous lack of signage in the Pro Shop BEFORE I played this time, and was told 'if you get lost, ask somebody'. Brilliant!! (assuming there are people close enough to ask at the time). The good news is that all they need to do is spend a couple of hundred quid on signs just to make it easier for visitors, and perhaps even go further by actually having score cards with a course map!. To be fair, the course was in good condition in most places but unfortunately the overall experience was pretty poor in comparison with other nearby courses. The weather was better but that was about it!.

Lovely day

Excellent example of a links golf course! We had good weather! Lad in the pro shop was a total gent! Course played well and is a challenge. Few blind holes but I think if the course was played for a second time you could take a few shots off the score. You will not get better views anywhere else!!!! FACT!

Windy weather
Walked

Poorly kept, over-prived and overall a pretty boring course

It was not a very enjoyable course to play - whether that was because we'd had a good drink the night before or because it was slightly windy, but probably because it just isn't a very good course . There were some challenging holes but the full course needs some maintenance - greens and fairways aren't very good at all. We found it a very monotenous course and wouldn't return. Very expensive for what it is.
