Macclesfield
Played in late December for the first time.
Weather had been really wet for the last week and despite holes 11-17 being closed all the other greens were open and in great condition.
As we had booked for 18 the pro explained how we could still get in 18 on a loop and so we played a few holes twice but didn’t take away from enjoyment of the course.
Really hilly but makes for an interesting and challenging round.
Really enjoyed it and can imagine it’s an amazing course to play in the spring/summer.
Will definitely be back.
Wow!
Best conditioned course I’ve played in a good while.
Severe tee shots are blind as it’s a hilly course, but the views are spectacular. Greens were in great condition.
Would go back without hesitation.
Golf on a misty day
The course was wet but playable, the greens and fairways were in great condition, all in all an enjoyable round of golf.
A beautiful Golf Course
This is the first time I have played Macclesfield and I was pleasantly surprised, great weather, wonderful views across to Wales and Manchester.
The fairways were like carpets and the greens were slick but true. Unfortunately due to Covid nothing was open except the Pro shop and changing rooms.
However myself and my brother thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hidden gem in excellent condition
Played here on a lovely autumn day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've played several courses new to me this year, and these greens were by far the best. In fact, the course as a whole was in great nick.
Although we had little interaction with staff and members, it feels like a friendly place and somewhere in keen to revisit. Not too long, the main challenge is the gradient on some of the holes, so a degree of fitness is required. However, the views are spectacular as a result.
Looking forward to returning.
Great views
Only managed to play the front 9 as the weather got too bad to play the back but I would go back to play the full 18 on a dry day some really well looked after greens and some great views tough course tho a lot of Hills
Friendly welcome from staff and the members we met on our round. Course in excellent condition and well maintained. It’s a tough walk but you are rewarded with spectacular views in all directions and some beautiful holes. There are a number of blind shots which make club selection/hole management difficult for the first time visitors but this didn’t detract from a really enjoyable round. We’ll certainly return.
somewhat challenging but fair?
first time here and the course was hard to find and also not the best of days for golf, anyway that out of the way nice welcome in the proshop good guide on the course from the pro and away. i play most of my golf on a very flat course so the first hole was very steep and a bit of shock to the old legs, but even with the bad weather the views around are stunning. greens in great shape for time of year. clubhouse staff very friendley and the prices very reasonable, will be back legs willing?
A hidden gem
Myself and 2 colleagues played this course recently and we were all very impressed. The course was in excellent condition (especially the first 10 holes) and some of the views are fantastic. My personal favourite hole was the 3rd which is a par 4 with a blind tee shot but once you tee off and walk over the hill the hole is tremendous. The members we met on the day were great, the pro in the shop very friendly and the lady who served our piping hot coffee in the clubhouse was very welcoming (free biscuit too!!). Having read some of the other reviews I agree that more signage on the course would be beneficial but it doesn't detract from what was a great day and round of golf. We'll certainly be back. 9/10
Fantastic course
This was a fantastic course with tough fast greens. The course was in brilliant condition and was well looked after. The pro in the pro shop was very helpful and welcoming, it was a tough test out on the course but a very enjoyable one. I would definitely like to play here again given the chance. Overall a great day out.
Great course
Have played this course several times this year. It is a difficult walk round rewarded with some fantastic views across the Cheshire Plain and Manchester,
Course is always in great condition-the greens today were excellent and not a weed in sight on the fairways.
Absolute bargain for the price we paid.
Great day for golf
Came and played Macc today.
Greeted in the pro shop by a friendly gent then headed to the putting green for a little practice. Green was in good condition.
When going round the course the greens were firm and fast. Fairways were in good condition too.
Couple of things I would highly recommend:
More signage around the course for next hole ect (More for non members) Example is going from the 10th to the 11th.
A word of warning the course does have slopes to it on the greens and also the holes around the course do have slopes and climbs so be aware this course is not a flat course.
Would play here again. But would also like to see the signs ect.
Pleasant round of golf
This was the first time I have played this course the first hole is a bit of a climb but well worth it excerlant views from all over the course
Staff and other players very friendly
Would recommend this course
Stunning hillside course
We played on a very wet and 20-35 mph windy day.
The course was in very good all round condition, of particular note was the quality of the bunkers. Even in wet conditions the ball found its way into playable positions and I was able to consistently play classic bunker shots. The most consistent quality bunkers I have played in anywhere for a long time, a great credit to the greenskeepers.
The course is very tight and requires care when playing across other players on some holes. This is a great course for learning how to play uphill, downhill and sideways lies as it is extremely hilly but the benefit of the stunning views is worth the effort.
Will certainly return and hopefully on a calmer day.
challenge for high handicappers
Course in immaculate condition.
Course really interesting .
When we played Pin positions set very close to edge of greens . Greens fast
Undulating fairways , lots of shots where feet not level.
A few blind shots .
Worth a visit
Although a shortish course the hilly terrain and quality and speed of the greens still makes this a challenging round. The course provides some spectacular views across Cheshire and beyond, particularly from the 7th tee. With the deals available it is always worth a visit.
