La Iguana is a 6,700-yard Ted Robinson Jr. design with a unique and dramatic setting at the Los Suenos Marriott. The front nine plunges into the shadow of the rainforest along a narrow river valley. From the hills there is an occasional chorus of howler monkeys and mature trees near the stream are perversely placed. For instance, the second hole requires a long iron shot either over or under two trees guarding the green. The fairways are lined with what the locals call “mani grass”, or peanut grass, and this Costa Rican version of rough will swallow your ball like no other. Fortunately, the resort offers fore caddies that will find your ball and also be your guide for the natural wonders that surround you.
On a good day at La Iguana it is possible to see beautiful wildlife while you play... monkeys, three-toed sloths, toucans and scarlet macaws among other species.
