Historic Fort Collins Course built in the 1940's. Medium sized fairways surrounded by mature trees make up the courses character. There are few sand traps and many grass traps. The key to scoring well here is not distance but hitting the ball straight. There are two par fives, both reachable in 2 by good hitters and the five par fours are easily playable. The third hole is a par four dogleg left that a good hitter may be tempted to hit over the corner but beware the out of bounds if your shot is not right on. Water comes into play on a few holes but is not too challenging. This is a very fun course situated in the beautiful city park area of Fort Collins. I have found the staff, as well as the course regulars very friendly. There is a practice putting green, a chipping and sand practice green and teaching staff available. There is a driving range, but it is one of the poorest I've seen. It is only about 180 yards in length and very narrow, and surrounded by fairways. It's distracting to try and hit big shots without worrying about striking someone. Out of all the local area courses I have played so far, this one is very inviting and relaxed. For a challenging round I would probably look at the 18 hole courses such as Southridge, but for a relaxing game this is the place. May/00 |
