Chardon Lakes was built in 1931 as a nine hole course. The second nine holes were added in the early sixties. When you play this course, remember you are shooting at a course record held by the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus. He shot a 67 from the back tees during an American Cancer Society outing in 1971. The golf course is kept in immaculate shape throughout the season. At 6200 yards from the white tees and 6800 yards from the blues, this is definitly no push-over. The front nine is very tight and requires great shot-making. Be sure to keep the ball below the pins on the front nine. The back nine is longer and slightly more open. The finishing three holes are brutes. From the tips, they mat be the three toughest finishers in northeast Ohio. Tee times are tough to come by on the weekends, but it is worth it. Also, Chardon Lakes my be the best host of outings in the Lake/Geauga area. September/99 |
