Course Reviews

Course Name The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Course
Location Kau Sai Chau, Sai Kung, Hong Kong, New Territories
Comments from Michael Tang, Hong Kong
The first ever public golf course in Hong Kong. It is situated on an island off the harbour of Sai Kung. These are 2 specticular courses with tremendous view of the Sai Kung harbour and nearby islands. Gary player design.

(North Course)
I prefer if there was no identification card which allows you to play in the course needed and make the driving range cost from $70 to $45!!!! It's not a good value and I prefer more bunkers to practice!!

(North Course)
This scenic course can be a monster with the wind up. Some narrow fairways and natural hazards make this one for the lower handicapper. In spite of this it is a very enjoyable challenge and must surely be the best value course in and around Hong Kong.

(South Course)
The Kau Sai Chau Public golf course provides a magnificent round of golf for all players. The south course is a very friendly course. All handicap players are assured pleasurable game of golf in this course. This course offers undulating fairways and foreseeble greens.the course is sea framed by the South China sea and has some wonderfully challenging holes. This South course and North course are both designed by Gary Player. The South course is very short for long hitters but it is fair for general hitters ( around 6,000 yards ). You cannot miss this course!!!!

The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Golf Club offers two very magnificent Gary Player designed golf courses (South and North golf courses). The North course, from the back tee, is 6692 yards. It's undulating fairways, hard-to-read greens and deep bunkers make it hard for all handicappers to shoot a fair and satisfatory score.

The third hole, which is a par 3, 174 yards from the blue tee is one of the toughest but most beautifull holes in the North course. The 7th hole, which is also a very short par 3 (148 yards ), provides players to pick a rare birdie. As players move on to the back nine, they can improve their score and head off with a good start. This is because the 10th hole, which is a short par 5 (491 yards), can easily be reached in two as the tee box is placed much higher than the green. In this hole, the bunker in the front edge of the green is also memorable.

As players move on, they will face one of the world's best holes, the 14th (par 3, 205 yards). The length is not the major problem, but the club selection and the accuracy are the real factors. Players must carry their ball high and use a back spin so their ball would stop instantly when it reaches the green because it is a downhill shot on an island green. The 17th hole, which is a monstrous PAR 5 (570 YARDS), can be tough to reach in two, but may pick up some birdies when the players' tee shots are long and straight.
