Course Reviews

Course Name Crystal Springs Golf Club
Location The Great Gorge Golf Reserve, Hardyston, New Jersey, USA
Comments from Dr. John Whiting, Vernon, New Jersey, USA
Crystal Springs presents the golfer with a beautiful course that presents the golfer with a different challenge on every hole. From the long valley par 5 18th hole to the signature 10th hole which requires the golfer to hit a 150 foot elevated tee shot over a quarry dropping to a green guarded by crystal clear water on one side and rock formations on the other, Crystal Springs provides a golf experience for the under 18 handicap golfer that makes want to come back. A Great Gorge Golf Reserve course, this is truly one of NJ's best.

Comments from J. Kurlander, Hardyston, New Jersey, USA
Since opening in 1991, Crystal Springs is recognized as one of the finest golf facilities in the Northeastern United States. In 1992, Crystal Springs was rated among the top 25 new golf courses in America by Golf Digest Magazine. the Jersey Golfer named Crystal Springs as "The Best Public Golf Course" in the state in its 1996 fall ranking of New Jersey's best layouts. Year after year, Crystal Springs ranks among Golf Digest's top ten list for public golf courses in New Jersey.
Not only is Crystal Springs recognized as being the best...it is also considered the most challenging layout in New Jersey. The distinct character of Crystal Springs can be attributed to designer Robert Van Hagge of Houston, Texas. Van Hagge has long been recognized as one of the leading golf course architects in the United States. In the past few years, he has designed more than fifty courses in the United States, Europe, and Japan. One of the hallmarks of a Van Hagge course are sculpted mounds which frame the fairways and greens, giving definition to each hole while adding an intense contrast of color between the fairways and roughs. The signature hole is the famous tenth ... a par three with the tees situated 80 feet above the green on the top of a cliff on the site of the former Windsor Quarry. When the limestone quarrying operations ceased in 1929, the site filled with water forming the many natural springs that now dot the property. The clear waters at the tenth prompted the naming of the community and the golf course.
